First annual New Minas Celebration of Lights concludes with fun, free family activities
The first annual New Minas Celebration of Lights concluded with all sorts of fun, free family activities at the County Fair Mall on Saturday. There was a children’s gingerbread house making contest, with all 100 of the gingerbread house kits provided being used. There were four contestants and 75 samplers in the “It’s Getting Chili” chili cook-off, which was won by Daniel Mons of New Minas, and a children’s art contest. The eight finalists from the art contest, which featured works from students at Port Williams and New Minas elementary schools, will have their work featured in a calendar next year. All proceeds will go to charity. The winners of the “Light Up the Strip for Christmas” residential and business lighting contests were announced as well. The displays will stay up until Jan. 1.
