Coldbrook home incurs extensive damage in Wednesday evening blaze
A Coldbrook home was damaged extensively by fire Wednesday evening. A neighbour spotted the flames coming from the large home on Princess Crescent at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 and called the Kentville Fire Department.
Flames were coming from the roof when firefighters arrived on the scene. Mutual aid in the form of additional trucks and human resources was called in from departments from Hantsport to Berwick. A rapid intervention team (RIT) from the Brooklyn, Hantsport and Windsor fire departments responded as well. The RIT team is a group of firefighters with specialized training and equipment who remain on standby at a scene in case of an accident involving firefighters inside a building.
Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours. The provincial fire marshal’s office investigated and has determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and started near the home’s electrical panel. Flames burned up an outside wall and into the roof of the home.
One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury fighting the blaze while a second sustained a hand injury and was taken to hospital for x-rays and treatment.
