Winning weekend for Valley Tier 1 teams

Valley Tier 1 soccer teams had a successful weekend Dec. 8-9 with the result that a second Valley team grabbed at least a share of top spot in the Nova Scotia Soccer League (NSSL) standings.
All six Valley teams saw action on the weekend at home and all six were victorious.
The U-18 boys improved to 2-0-1, tied for first place, with a 2-1 win over Dartmouth United Sunday, Dec. 9. James Nunn and Dylan Short scored the Valley goals.
The Valley U-18 girls won their first game of the season 4-0 over Cole Harbour, also on Dec. 9. Katelyn McCluskey, Lauren Landry, Carly Gillis and Kailey Bower had the goals and Kennedy Bennicke and Jillian Cochrane shared the shutout.
Also Sunday, the U-16 girls remained in first place in their division with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Halifax County, improving their record to 5-1. Chantal Landry scored twice for Valley, while Peggy Kenny netted the winner late in the second half.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, the Valley U-14 girls scored a 4-1 win over Cole Harbour to improve to 4-2 on the season, tied for third in their division with 12 points.
Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith had two goals. Gilliane Gates and Scarlett Smith had one goal apiece.
Meanwhile, the U-14 boys, improved to 4-1, good for second in their division, with a 4-2 win over Dartmouth United. Jacob MacRae had two goals and Keifer Levy and Calum MacRae one each as Valley built a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the other game Saturday, the U-16 boys reached the .500 mark for the first time this season at 3-3, winning their second straight contest 3-0 over Bedford. Chris Potter, Dawson Smith and Ben Crisp had the goals. Arthur Ferguson earned the shutout.
