Up the creek without a lawyer
A Liverpool man well known for his close contact with both the Mersey River bed and his home bed was permitted Dec. 11 in Liverpool Provincial Court to seek legal counseling for his adjourned sentencing, now scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Feb. 8.
Jason Alexander Meisner, 30, has represented himself up to now on charges of obstructing a police officer and five counts of a breach of undertaking. He pleaded guilty to the charges on Oct. 23.
On Sept. 16, Meisner attempted to escape a Queens RCMP officer concerned with a possible breach of undertaking related to alcohol consumption. At about 2:15 a.m., he jumped into the Mersey River off a commercial core parking lot wharf and was swept away in the current.
Liverpool Fire Department and Queens Ground Search and Rescue volunteers, RCMP, and a Department of Natural Resources helicopter took part in the subsequent search. A RCMP boat and diver based in Chester were also called.
However, Meisner made his way home, took a shower and went to bed. He was found in his house at about 2 p.m.
