Apprentices 'game' at South Shore Opportunities
Twelve unemployed people have received help from local businesses while competing in South Shore Opportunities’ first Apprentice Program.
South Shore Opportunities in a joint partnership with the Department of Community Services has put this “game” together.
It started Nov. 14.
The group’s first challenge focused on customer service and telephone skills.
Competitors went to On-Line Support Inc. in Liverpool to learn these skills as well as make a video to attract other participants, explained South Shore Opportunities Executive Director, Krista Harding.
Judges for game one included the call centre’s manager and operations manager.
Harding was thrilled to have Reynolds Pharmasave play a big part in game two.
The concept involved merchandising skills.
This competition had teams create merchandizing displays for local businesses.
Stores included Memory Lane, Home Hardware, SAAN and the Main Street Kwik-Way.
Employees at Memory Lane were happy with the display two women in the competition created on Nov. 29.
Judging for game two was done by Pharmasave’s manager and an employee from Every Bloomin’ Thing.
The program wrapped up Dec. 6 with a charity ticket sale competition.
The group of 12 learned sales and marketing skills, said Harding.
