A Beary Merry Christmas for all
The Salvation Army is once organizing a Beary Merry Christmas for all residents, but especially for those in need.
The Stadacona Band, with help from co-sponsors, the Investors Group, promises once again to be the highlight of the 7th annual Beary Merry Christmas concert 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at The Astor Theatre.

In addition, television and media personalities, Scott Boyd and Liz Rigney are returning to help support the Christmas Community Program fundraiser for local families in need.

Major Henry Bingle, of the Salvation Army, says the well-known Christmas Cheer program is expected to once again benefit - as part of the community program - close to 300 families with food and toys.

The Christmas Giving Tree at Liverpool Market Superstore is also part of the program.

The price for Beary Merry Christmas is only $5 plus a teddy bear. Tickets are now available through the Astor Theatre box office at 354-5250 or www.astortheatre.ns.ca

With the sponsorship, Major Bingle says, “Everything goes back into the community.”

He adds local donations to the 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Daddies Telethon Dec. 2 on ATV are returned to the community as well through the community program.

The Salvation Army’s annual kettle campaign is also in full swing with funds used both during the holiday season and throughout the year to help families in need.

“It’s an everyday thing here,” Major Bingle says. “Somebody is calling for help every day.”

He adds the Christmas Community Program is, like the name denotes, a community wide program run by the Salvation Army with churches, services groups and others involved.

However, he says it is getting more difficult each year to keep up with demand.

“Prices keep going up and some churches keep dropping out because of finances but we’re hoping we’re going to make it.”
