The Municipality of Barrington will be drafting a policy aimed at reducing vandalism on the Barrington Bay Trail in the near future.
Joan Atkinson the policy will improve her situation.
Her house is located “a rock’s throw away from the trail” and she’s tired of the destruction that’s been happening on the trail ever since it was blocked off at either end to prevent four-wheeler access.
“I have found that since they’ve blocked the trail off for just walkers and not allowed four-wheelers to go through, there have been more problems than before,” she said.
Incidences include a portable toilet on the trail being turned over and the bottom damaged.
Benches have been tossed over the breakwater and garbage cans have disappeared.
Lines were cut to the Atkinson’s cabin cruiser tied to the wharf out front, which resulted in the vessel going on the rocks.
“They’ve just been literally trying to destroy everything. The last thing that they did was broke some lobster traps we had put there,” said Atkinson.
“I was fit to be tied. Those traps were put there in memory of a guy (Darrell Goodwin) who used to walk the trail a lot and he loved the trail so much. I asked his mother if I could have some of his traps to put on the wharf and she gave me some. What they didn’t throw overboard, they smashed,” she said.
