November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued Lewis Reginald “Louie” Reeves - 84,South Berwick, Kings Co. passed away Tuesday November 20, 2007, in the Veterans Unit of the Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Cambridge Sta., Kings Co. he was a son of the late Roderick and Cassie (Reese) Reeves. Louie was a veteran of the second world war and served as a gunner in the 5th. Anti Tank Regiment and was wounded in France. He had worked at C.F.B. Greenwood for 31 years, retiring in 1978. Louie enjoyed wood working, camping, fishing, yard sales & playing cards. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch # 69, Berwick, where he received his Meritorious Service Medal & Palm Leaf. He was a member of the Kings County Veterans Club and Christ Anglican Church, Berwick. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mabel (Oickle) Reeves, South Berwick; son, Wayne (Janis) Reeves, Gaspereau Valley; daughter, Brenda (Daniel) Crawford, Harbourville; grandchildren, Jason (Nancy) Reeves; Amanda (Colin Beckwith) Reeves; Anthony & Amy Crawford; great-grandchildren, Eric & Kristie Reeves; sisters, Florence “Polly” Murphy, South Berwick; Eveline Silliker, Port Elgin, N.B.; several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Cecil, Edward, Theodore, Marcus, Robert, Carmen, Dean & George Reeves; sisters, Dorothy Dixon; Blanche Luca & Alice Kelly. Visitation took place 2-4 p.m. Thursday November 22, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the Royal Canadian Legion Service and Funeral Service took place 11 a.m. Friday November 23. Rev. Charles Bull officiated. Burial was in the Berwick Cemetery. A reception followed in the Christ Anglican Church Hall, 238 Commercial Street, Berwick. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Veterans Unit of the Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton, Christ Anglican Church, Berwick, or to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued Joan Elizabeth Harding – 46, of Morden, passed away after a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer, Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Natick, Mass., she was a daughter of the former Beatrice “Bea” (Woodbury) and the late Alfred “Eugene” Spinney. Joan was a kind, gentle and loving mother to Adam and Scott; she loved gardening, quilting and animals. She enjoyed the outdoors, walking, jogging, horseback riding and camping. She loved taking care of those she most loved, preserving and cooking, being with her “Special Quilting Friends” and her special dog “Bud”. After graduation from the Middleton Vocational School, she was a dedicated employee of Kings Mutual Insurance for over 27 years. Joan is survived by her husband, LeRoy “Roy”; sons, Adam and Scott, all of Morden; sister, Phyllis (Elwood) Dukeshire, Paradise; brother, Darrell (Brenda) Spinney, Kingston; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Brothers-in-law, David (Candy) Harding, Sault Ste. Marie; Robert (Akiko) Harding, Vancouver; John (Cathy) Harding and Tom (Betty) Cogswell, both of Morden. She was predeceased by sister-in-law, Jane Cogswell. Visitation was held 7-9 PM, Friday, November 23, in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. A memorial service was held at 11:00AM, Saturday, November 24 in the Kingston Baptist Church, Rev. Leon Langille officiated, followed by a reception at the Kingston Fire Hall. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued LEIGHTON, Percy Emerson, age 88, of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, formerly of Newport Station, Hants County, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the Halifax Infirmary, Q.E. II. Born on December 8, 1918, in Windsor, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian (Smith) Leighton. Percy along with his wife, lived and worked in Ottawa for over 13 years, with Minto Construction, and he retired as Superintendent. He had previously worked at the Fundy Gypsum Company and also Carl Potter's Construction. Percy was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He is survived by his children, Barb (Kenneth) Lynch, Newport Station; Cheryl (Edward) Sanford, Newport Station; Paul Leighton (Paulette Millen), St. Croix; Lorraine Leighton (Bill Leary), Falmouth; Heather Roy (Mike Legree), Pakenham, ON; grandchildren, Lisa Lynch; Tammy Kehoe (Jeff Orde) and Jodie (Devin) Whitehead; Richard (Laura-Lee) Leighton and Kari-Ann Leighton; Dana McDonald and Garrett McDonald; Chad Roy and Bradley Roy; great grandchildren, Cody and Brandi Kehoe, Morgan and Reagan Whitehead, Rylee Elizabeth Leighton; sisters, Pauline "Polly" Slaunwhite, Windsor Elms; Sadie Feltham, Dartmouth; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, the former Mary Louise Dimock (1991); son, Percy Gordon "Gordie" Leighton; sisters, Harriet Hood; Marion Cochrane; Ruby Leighton; brothers, Whylie, Charlie, Murray and Robie Leighton. Born in Greenville on December 27, 1936, she was a daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Wesley) Johnson. Jennie was a member of Greenville Baptist Church, where she was the organist for 40 years. She was a member of Greenville Community Centre. Jennie was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 Women's Auxiliary for 30 years. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Patricia Johnson (Clifford), Yarmouth; Wanda Johnson (Rory), Yarmouth; Margaret (Floyd) Lawrence, Brampton, Ont.; Karen Johnson, Yarmouth; Lisa Johnson (Michael), Yarmouth; son, Wayne Johnson, Greenville, Yarmouth Co.; brothers, Arthur Johnson, Louis Johnson, both of Greenville; Phillip Johnson, Terry Johnson, Malcolm Johnson, all of Yarmouth; sisters, Arvella Johnson, Greenville; Janet Champdoizeau, Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co.; Francis Fenton, Yarmouth and seven grandchildren. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued Robert Terry Rogers – 51, of Glades Lodge, Halifax, formerly of Lakeville, Kings County, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2007 in the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Wolfville on June 4, 1956, he was a son of Evangeline (Rogers) Baltzer, Kentville and the late Cecil Robert Baltzer. He had been employed with Great Valley Juices, Kentville for 17 years and was an avid motorcyclist. He enjoyed gathering with his biker friends for Tuesday evening coffee at Tim Horton’s in Coldbrook, attending various motorcycle rallies, Poker Runs and Toy Runs. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wanda (Simpson) Rogers; a daughter, Holly and a son, Coady, both at home; two brothers, Peter (Audrey) Baltzer, Edmonton; Paul (Kari) Baltzer, Greenwich; two sisters, Janet (Baltzer) Bennett (Phillip), Canning; Susan (Baltzer) Russell (Bob), Halifax. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a son, James Robert Rogers; a brother, Eric Vernon Rogers. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued John Edwin Croft – 85, formerly of Hantsport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members, Friday, November 23, 2007 in the DVA Unit of Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Greenfield, Kings County on April 13, 1922, he was the son of the late Orley and Margaret “Maggie” Croft. He served proudly overseas during the Second World War and in Korea, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hantsport. Following the wars, he was employed with Minas Basin Pulp and Paper – Board Mill Division for several years before retiring. His favourite pastime was to go hunting and fishing with his buddies and playing a game or two of cards. He will be sadly missed by his children, Dianne Ashton, Berwick; John (Carol), Mt. Denson; siblings, Verna Spidel and Heston Croft. He will also be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marianne (Wolff) Croft; siblings, Harold, Lloyd, Elizabeth, Clare and Gladys. There will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only, by request. November 18, 2007 to November 24, 2007 continued James Bernard “Bernie” Robinson – 80, of Kentville, passed away Friday, November 23, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Port Williams, Kings County, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth (England) Robinson. He had been employed with Canada Foods and later for 38 years with the Province of Nova Scotia, working in the former Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Miller, and Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospitals. During his time at the Sanatorium, he served with the fire department in many capacities, including chief. He was also a veteran member of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia “Patty” (David) Pineo, Lakeville; Debbie (Edward) Murphy, Aldershot; two sons, Douglas, British Columbia; Ronald (Linda), Dartmouth; nine grandchildren, Kelly and Nicole Robinson, Matthew, Andrew and Mitchell Pineo, Jason and Kyle Murphy, Darroch and Chellan Robinson; a great grandson, Ryan; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Dorothy “Dot” Saunders in 2005; four brothers, Patrick, Lewis, Charles and Robert. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2007, with prayers held at 8:30 p.m. all in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007, Father Craig Christenson officiated. A private family burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Born in Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Brenton and Mildred (Blois) Spinney. She was an adherent of both the Baptist and Pentecostal Churches in Ontario and was strong in her beliefs and in faith. She is survived by a son, Glen (Dolores), Three Miles Plains; a daughter, Margaret (Larry) Ball, Orillia; 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; a sister, Olive (Arnold) Ogilvie, Burlington; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; a son, Fred; a daughter, Judy; two grandchildren; five sisters, Helen, Ruby, Myrtle, Nellie and Nancy; three brothers, Bill, Leonard and Gordon. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Bob Billings officiated. A private family interment took place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only by request.
