November 11, 2007 to November 17, 2007 continued JOWETT, Alexander - Lower Eel Brook, and formerly of Edmonton, Alta., passed away November 17, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on July 7, 1918, he was a son of the late William and Margaret Wilson. Al was a veteran of the Second World War. He loved to putter around in his yard and collect chicken eggs. He loved to bird watch among other numerous hobbies. In Alberta Al liked to help the troubled youth he came into contact with. He worked for Nonwestern Utilities for many years. Al was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; daughter, Anita (Randy), Fairmont, B.C.; son, David, Edmonton; stepdaughter, Sherry Ramsey, Alberta; half-sister, Annie, England; grandchildren, Clayton and Natalie Leskie, David Jr., Jason and Alisha Jowett; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and special friend Robert Casey. Al will also be missed by many friends and relatives in Alberta and Yarmouth County. He was predeceased by brothers, Walter, Tom and Bob; sister, Vi. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There will be a memorial service at a later date. November 11, 2007 to November 17, 2007 continued gray, Viola Isabelle - 80, formally of Carleton, Yarmouth Co., passed away November 17, 2007 at Tidal View Manor. Born on September 25, 1926 in Forest Glen, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Brittain. She was a member of the Forest Glen Baptist Church. Viola was a homemaker all her life. She is survived by husband Nelson Eugene Gray; daughter Connie Peach, New Zealand; brothers Burpee, Forest Glen; Prescott, Forest Glen; Russel, N.B.; sisters Mary Cameron; Bertha Clouston, Mildred Kinney and Roberta Ima Patey, all of Yarmouth Co. She was predeceased by sisters Pauline, Viva and Eva; brothers Malcolm and Edgar “Sammy.” Cremation took place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There was a graveside service held Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Carleton Cemetery, Rev. Ben Densmore officiated. Donations in memory may be made to the Carleton Cemetery. November 11, 2007 to November 17, 2007 continued SURETTE, Dorothy Agnes – 86, Yarmouth, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born October 5, 1921 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Laura (Strach) Melanson. She was a devoted mother to Harold (Doris) Surette, Ontario; Earl (Judy) Surette, Halifax; Doug (Janice) Surette, Yarmouth; Sharon (Wayne) Spinney, Argyle; Janet (Arthur) Dulong, Hubbard’s Point; Pat (Moraine) Surette, Ontario; Kay (Kenneth) Foster, Hubbard’s Point; Brian (Gail) Surette, Lee (Marilyn) Surette, both of Ontario; Jack (Brenda) Surette, Milton Highlands; Leslie (Donna) Surette, Ontario; Kenny (Faye) Surette, Plymouth; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Paula) Melanson, California; Don Melanson, Halifax. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ronald A. Surette; a son, Kenneth; brothers and sisters, Bill, Dorothy, Paul, Gordon, Donald, Elizabeth and Harold; step-brothers and sisters, Marg, John, George, Gladys. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday, with prayers at 8:30 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 2 PM, Friday, November 16 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. November 11, 2007 to November 17, 2007 continued Viola Jean Coldwell -88, of Melanson, passed away Saturday November 17, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Centreville Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Dulcie (Ells) Langille. Viola was raised by her foster parents, the late James and Olevia Hardacker. Viola was a wonderfully kind person, with a big heart. Her family always came first. She loved flowers and will be fondly remembered for her sense of humour and her love of music and dancing. Viola was a loving mother, grand mother and great grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. She is survived by her sons; Morris & his companion (Mae), Melanson; Manford (Carol), Grand Pre; Vernon (Nancy), Berwick; daughters; Joyce & her companion (Wayne), Windsor; Thelma (Stanley), Kingston; Linda (David), Coldbrook; 25 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Viola was predeceased by her husband Burton, son, Milton, daughter, Sheila, granddaughter, Ronda, brothers, Morris and Walter Langille, sisters, Nellie Ells; Agnes Mildred Gates and Beatrice Viola Langille. Visitation for Mrs. Coldwell was held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday November 20th in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151) A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday November 21st in the Gaspereau Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Manthorne and Rev. Robert Burbidge officiating. A private family burial took place in Gaspereau Cemetery. November 11, 2007 to November 17, 2007 continued Nelson James Silver – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Nelson James Silver in West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni, B.C., on November 9, 2007, at 63 years of age. A private family graveside service was held on Monday, November 19, in Alberni Valley Memorial Park. Nelson's cremated remains were laid to rest beside his wife. It was followed by Memorial Tea in Knox Presbyterian Church. Nelson was born in Morristown, Kings County, NS. He was the son of the late James and Nora(Adams) Silver. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, on November 3, 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Paul), Berwick, and his son, James (Caterina), Port Alberni, B.C. He was Grampa to Lauren, Norah and Grace Bernasky, Berwick, and Papa to twins Kyle and Jianna Silver, Port Alberni. Nelson is also survived by his brother, George (Carla), Berwick; sisters, Gloria (Murray), Berwick; Wilma (George), Ontario; Golda, Ontario; brother-in-law, Barry Creelman (Judy), Port Alberni, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and co-workers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nelson's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
