Clara Mary McClare, 90, of Gladys Manning Residence, Windsor, formerly of Hillsvale, Hants County, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on February 12, 1917, in South Rawdon, Hants County, she was a daughter of the late James and Leila (Mason) Blois. Clara was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Clara lived most of her life in South Rawdon and Hillsvale, and resided at the Gladys Manning Retirement Complex at the time of her death. She was a lifelong member of the South Rawdon Baptist Church and lived her life as a testament to her faith in God. Clara served at various times as a Sunday School teacher, assistant Treasurer, Life Deacon, and for 32 years as church clerk. She was also a member of the South Rawdon-Hillsvale Women's Missionary Society. Active in the community, Clara was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. She is survived by her children, James (Uharda) McClare, Fredericton, NB, and their children, Ted (Cynthia), Richard (Christy); Charles (Joan) McClare, Espanola, ON, and their children, Scott and Jennifer; Lois (Wray) Dewar, Hantsport, and their children, Carmen (Scott) Miller, Mary (Jonathan) Ducarme, and David (Rachel) Dewar; Ernest (Shirley) McClare, Yellow Point, BC; Elinor McClare, Saint John, NB; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alberta Blois, Windsor; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas "Tom" Annis McClare (1974); sisters, Edith Stanfield and Leonore Spicer; brothers, Ben, John and Jamie Blois. Visitation was 2-5 p.m. Saturday, November 17, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2007, in the South Rawdon Baptist Church, South Rawdon, with the Rev. Clarence Bungay officiating. Interment was in the South Rawdon Baptist Cemetery, followed by a reception in the South rawdon Baptist Memorial Center. MANSFIELD, George W. - 74, of North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, formerly of South Brookfield, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home, Wednesday, November 14th, 2007, surrounded by his family. Born in Molega, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Susie (Wamboldt) Mansfield. George was owner and operator of his own trucking company hauling for Bowater Mersey Paper Company and other logging and pulp companies retiring in 1990. He was a member of Caledonia United Church, served as an elder and was a member of the choir. He loved the outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing and trapping. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley (Carver) (Forrest); daughters Yvonne (Darrill) Mansfield of West Caledonia, Deborah (Ronald) Uhlman of North Brookfield; son David (Phyllis) of Milton; stepdaughter Joanne (Roger) Weare of Caledonia; stepsons: Kenneth (Susan) Forrest of Dayspring, Watson (Bonnie) Forrest of Caledonia, Blair (Louise) Forrest of Bridgewater, Bill (Michelle) Forrest of Caledonia, Darrill (Yvonne) Whynot, of West Caledonia, Darrin (Beverley) Whynot New Minas, Billy Joe (Monette) McCue of Tantallon; granddaughters Angela and Carrie; grandsons: Joseph and Evan; step granddaughters: Cindy, Caitlyn, Taylor, Cassidy and Alaina; step grandsons Christopher, Justin and Daniel; great grandson: Ty Marshall-Wade; step great granddaughters Shayla and Alexandria; step great grandsons Kerwyn and Keegan; sisters Jean Crouse of Lunenburg and Margaret Shay of Oliver, BC; brother Robert (Hazel) Mansfield of South Brookfield. He was predeceased by his first wife Olive; son Paul and a brother Gordon. Funeral service was held Sunday, November 18, 2007 in Caledonia United Church. Pastor Tom Watson officiated. SLACK, Ethel Jeanette, 71, of Shelburne, passed away in the Victoria General Hospital on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Born in Upper Clyde, she was a daughter of Annie MacLean (Harris) and the late Clinton Harris. Ethel was a homemaker and loved children. She looked after many children over the years and was considered a mother to them all. She was a Sunday School teacher in the Trinity United Church for many years as well as a member of Unit “F” of the UCW. Ethel was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and she was also a member of the NCO Officers’ Wives Club. She is survived by husband, Gerry; mother, Annie Harris; sons, William (Karen), Ohio; Dale (Sandra), Jordan Branch; daughter, Rosemarie (Joey) Newell, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Clinton, Sara, Makayla and Daniel, brother, Lloyd Harris, Welshtown, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Clinton and grandson, Adam Newell. A memorial service was held on Monday, November 19, 2007 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth S. Cann of Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John, passed away at her residence on Nov. 15, 2007, with her family at her side. Born in 1921 in Gulliver’s Cove, Digby County, to the late Byron and Elizabeth (Gavel) MacDormand. Elizabeth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward S. and Judy Russell of Kingston Peninsula, N.B; a niece, Margaret Wilson, Digby; and a nephew, Barry MacDormand, Darmouth. At her request, no visitation was held and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Rossway Baptist Cemetery. Marjorie Louise Taylor – 72 of Lakeville, Kings County passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007 at the home of her sister and caregiver in Dartmouth. Born in Dundee, Prince Edward Island, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Conohan) Deveaux. At the age of 17 Marjorie joined the religious order of the Sisters of St. Martha in Kinkora, Prince Edward Island and at age 21 she left the order and moved back home with her family in Coldbrook, Kings County. In 1957 she met and married James Taylor from Canning and they had six children. She trained as a practical nurse and was employed at the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville and the former Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital, Wolfville. She is predeceased by her husband, James Taylor; a grandson, Collin Blenus and a brother, Philip Deveaux. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Marie Rogers, (Roy), Kentville; Mary Faye Taylor (Tim), Canning; Ella Lynn Taylor (Mike), Coldbrook; sons, Mark Taylor (Joanne), Centreville; John Taylor (Bobbie Mai), Halls Harbour, Kings County; Matthew Taylor, Lakeville, Kings County; sisters, Catherine Robar and Janet Deveaux, both of Dartmouth, 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and an un-born great grandchild.. Visitation was held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers held at 8:30 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2007 both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Gladys Beatrice White – of New Minas, formerly of Saint John, New Brunswick and Wolfville, Kings County, passed away Friday, November 16, 2007, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Bertha (King) Brown. She had been employed with C.H. Porter and Son, Wolfville for 27 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She is survived by three children, Paul White and Barbara (the late Kevin Coady), both of Ontario; Kevin (Jean) White, New Minas; nine grandchildren, Laura, Jason, Rebecca (Mark), Kristin, Kathryn (Jonathan), Ken (Sandra), Julie (Josh), Kimberly (Kurt) and Katelyn; eight great grandchildren, Madison, Colby, Mackenzie, Alex, Abigail, Aydin, Lukas, Jessica; a brother, Gregory (Dorothy) Brown and a sister-in-law, Norma Brown, both of Saint John; nieces and nephews. RAYNARD, Donald Curtis - 82, Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth Co., passed away November 17, 2007, surrounded by a circle of love and prayer. Born on October 10, 1925 in Pleasant Valley, he was a son of the late Herbert and Leta (Hamilton) Raynard. Donald was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 167, Carleton. He was a retired meat cutter. Donald also worked as a lath mill worker. He is survived by wife, Gertrude; daughters, Ann (Aubrey Churchill), Smith Falls, Ont.; Kathy (Charles Mason), Belnam; Connie (Ken Nicholl), Deerfield; Donna (Raymond Pothier), Yarmouth; sons, David (Kathy), Pleasant Valley; Randall (Bev), Deerfield; Timothy (Patricia), Lloydminster, Sask.; Michael (Danette), Carleton; brothers, Edmund and Andrew; sister, Hope Tinkham; 24 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Victor, Vernon, Arthur, Russell, and sisters, Edna and Freda. Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home with a Royal Canadian Legion Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service took place Tuesday, November 20, at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Rev. Reg Thomas officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
