Fall Session Fitness Classes

Come out and enjoy Fitness Classes in Caledonia. Instructor Lisa Gallant will be holding classes beginning Sept. 25 and running through to Nov. 29 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. Classes will be held at the North Queens Rural High School gym. The cost is $45 for the entire session or a drop-in fee of $3 per class. Don't forget to bring your water!
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course (Age 16+)

This course develops instructional ability by focusing on how to apply the information learned in the Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course. Candidates will learn how to effectively plan and teach the Red Cross Swim Program (ie. Preschool, swim kids and aquaadults). This is a 25-hour course, with 12 hours additional teaching experience. Upon successful completion, candidates are certified as WSI. Instructor Jilien Beaton. Dates of course: Nov. 29, 5:30-10 p.m. at White Point Beach Resort; Dec. 6, 5:30-10 p.m. at White Point Beach Resort; Dec. 27, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Lunenburg; Dec. 28, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Bridgewater Town Office. Free Noon Hour Skating for Adults, Liverpool

Strap on your skates and have an hour of fun skating at Queens Memorial Arena on Old Bridge Street in Liverpool! Noon Hour Skating for Adults is back, sponsored by the Region of Queens Municipality. Adults aged 17 and up can skate from 12 noon - 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Dec. 4 - March 29 - there will be no skating Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. This is a popular fitness activity for adults in Queens, and a lot of fun, too! In the event of inclement weather, please contact the Recreation Dept. for cancellation notices.

Downtown Christmas (Tree Lighting and Santa), Liverpool

Thursday, November 29th, 2007 6 p.m.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is being held in Liverpool, outside the Sherman Hines Museum of Photography (219 Main Street) on Thursday, Nov. 29. Ceremony begins at 6 p.m. with choir singing, hot chocolate, and the official lighting ceremony followed by the arrival of Santa Claus on a Fire Truck. Children may visit with Santa afterwards in the Astor Theatre. Nova Scotia Power will also be in attendance from 5.30 p.m. onwards to exchange old (incandescent lights) for LED lights - bring any two sets of old style lights and exchange them for one set of LED lights FREE OF CHARGE. One set per person. Quantities are limited, based on first-come, first-served.

Learn to Spin Wool into Yarn

Saturday, Jan. 12 & Saturday, Jan. 19 (storm dates: Jan. 13 & 20)

This two-day workshop gives you hands-on experience creating your own yarn using a drop spindle and spinning wheel. Spinner Sharon Orpin will show how to spin and ply your yarn. Spinning is a fun, creative craft! All supplies you need will be provided. *If you have a spinning wheel, please bring it the first week. Time: 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (lunch is on your own) Location: Queens County Museum, Liverpool. Registration: $50/person (includes drop spindle, spinning fibre, booklet, and registration fee) Contact the Recreation Dept. at 354-5741 by Jan. 4 to preregister. Space is limited!

Food Bank Movie, Liverpool

Dec. 1 1:15 p.m.

Spend an afternoon at the movies! Bring a donation of a non-perishable food item, and enjoy the Christmas movie, “Unaccompanied Minors” on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m., with the doors opening at 1:15 p.m.

Community Christmas Tree

Registration deadline to enter contest is November 30.

As the holiday season draws closer, it will soon be time for the 2007 Community Christmas Tree Competition. All communities within the Region of Queens Municipality are invited to decorate an outdoor Christmas tree, bringing people together to work as a team, and show their community pride. To register in the competition, contact the Department of Recreation and Community Facilities at 354-5741 (phone.) Please provide information on the location of the community tree, the name of the community represented and a contact name, as well as a phone number. Judging will take place during the week of Dec. 3 – 7; you will be contacted regarding the judging date for your community.
