Purple ribbon campaign

Nov. 25-Dec. 10

The annual purple ribbon campaign began Nov. 25 and runs until Dec. 10. Wearing a purple ribbon shows support to the women and children living in abusive homes, it shows respect to the women who have died at the hands of their partner and shows support for the local Juniper House.

100th anniversary

Nov. 27

The hospital ladies auxiliary is celebrating their 100th anniversary and extending a welcome to all former members of the Ladies Auxiliary of Yarmouth Regional Hospital to attend the monthly meeting Tuesday Nov. 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the Bluenose Room at Yarmouth Regional Hospital with a reception following. French book fair

Nov.27-28

A "Festival du Livre" will take place at École Belleville on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 2 - 8 and Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 8:30 - 12. French books for the whole family from board books to expert readers as well as a selection of French resource books for parents and educators. Organized by the PTA, the school library will receive free books based on the sales at the fair.

Fundraiser

M&M Meat Shops, in conjunction with Meadowfields Home And School, will be having a school fundraising day on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Mention you are supporting Meadowfields when making your purchase and 10 per cent of the sale will go towards fundraising efforts to provide extras for the children. Seafood chowder

The IODE is having a seafood chowder takeout fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov 28, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Yarmouth from 11:30 until 1:30 p.m. Price: $5 for chowder and a roll.

Wreath session

Adults can learn to make their own Christmas wreath Friday, Nov. 30, at Brazil Lake Wesleyan Church from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost $5; space limited. Register by calling 761-2566.

Art draw

Pancake breakfast with Santa

A pancake breakfast with Santa will be held at the South Ohio Community Centre on Dec. 1 from 9:30-11 a.m. Cost is $4, children under 12 free. Proceeds for the community centre.

The Yarmouth SPCA shelter (298 Hardscratch Rd.) will be holding a pet pics with Santa event Saturday, Dec. 1, from 1-4 p.m. Cost: $7. Phone 742-9767 for more info.

The Inland District Girl Guides of Canada will host a Christmas tea on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Carleton fire hall. Crafts, gifts, bake sale and door prizes, 1-3 p.m.

Food bank collection

Food bank collection for the Yarmouth Food Bank will be held on Dec. 2 at St Ambrose Church, Albert Street. Members of the Knights of Columbus will be in front of the church to collect non-perishable, and monetary gifts before each mass.

Christmas tree lighting

The 13th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony for the Municipality of Argyle will be held at the Tusket courthouse Dec. 2, at 6:45 p.m. Santa Claus, hayrides, and hot chocolate.

Poetry reading

John Castlebury will read from his just-published book of poetry "Aspiration Highway" in a Sunday afternoon (Dec. 2) program at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Western Branch, Yarmouth, beginning at 1 o'clock. Also there will be a Maud Lewis Christmas event for children that day. Christmas cards and decorations can be made using Maud Lewis themes in a special holiday program for children of all ages. Program starts at 2 p.m. at the art gallery. Children should be accompanied by an adult.

Dec. 6 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. A candle light vigil will be held in the town hall Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. Participants welcomed to show support to help end violence in our community.
