Somerset at C.K.: same great craft fair

With Somerset a work zone, organizers of the school’s annual Christmas craft fair have moved the popular event off-site to Central Kings High School in Cambridge.

Hosted by the Somerset Home and School Association, the two-day craft fair takes place this year November 17 and 18.

“We want people to know that they can expect the same great craft fair - just at a different location,” says home and school member Heather Peill.

Crafters will be set up in the two gyms at C.K., and possibly in the front foyer.

“Everything will be on one level this year, and that will improve access for everyone and make it easy to find all the crafters people look forward to seeing.”

Moving the fair to C.K. also means more on-site parking - and less work for Somerset students, staff and volunteers who traditionally move out all the furniture in the school to make room for crafters. Food for the canteen will be prepared at Somerset and transported to C.K.

“We will still need to bring in the tables, but the work load will definitely be lighter this year,” says Peill.

This is the 27th anniversary of the popular craft fair. Peill reports over 100 crafters are booked for both days. The craft fair is well-established, with local visitors and out-of-town shoppers making it part of a local “craft shop circuit.”

"Having (the fair) located on the beaten track may result in an increase in our traffic,” says Peill.

However, hosting the event at C.K. will be a “one-shot deal,” as Somerset’s new gymnasium will be completed this time next year.

Proceeds raised from the community-driven benefit the Home and School group, which in turn supports programs and services for Somerset students.

The doors for the Somerset craft fair at C.K. open at 10 a.m. both days and close at 4 p.m.. One-day admission is $2; a weekend pass costs $3. For information, call 538-4670.
