October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 Charlotte Marie "Chris" McKinnon - 82, Hantsport, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007, peacefully at her home. Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Marion (Ryan) Delong. A graduate of Horton Academy in Wolfville, "Chris" worked in the family business, McKinnon's Hardware. She was a Dominion Life Member of the UBWMU and an active member of the Hantsport Baptist Church where she served on various committees and groups. "Chris" was well-known in Hantsport as a member of the community. As well as camping and traveling the countryside with friends and loving family members, Chris enjoyed her bridge club and knitting. An excellent cook, nothing brought her more joy then a full table of friends and family to share a meal and celebrate. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and whose lives she touched. Surviving are her loving husband and constant companion of 62 years, Curtis "Curt" Mckinnon, Hantsport; daughters, Heather (Don) Marshall, Hampton; Dale Janes, Hantsport; Mary Ann McKinnon-Boyd (Ken), Lake Echo; son, Robert "Rob" (Lorna) McKinnon, Chilliwack, B.C.; grandchildren, Erin, Luke, Marshall, Sarah, Ian, Megan, Mya, and Desi; great-grandchild, Stella. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Ruth Lacharite (British Columbia); brother, Howard Delong (Montreal); as well as grandson, Willy. A celebration of her life was held Friday, November 2, at 2 p.m. in Hantsport Baptist Church, Rev. Dan Jamer officiated, with a private family burial in Riverbank Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Visits to the family home are welcome. Family flowers only. Donations in Chris' memory may be made to Hantsport Baptist Church. A reception followed the celebration of life service in the church, all were invited to join the family and friends for a time of reflection and fellowship. October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 HUSKILSON, LLOYD H. “CUTE”- 92, of Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport, formerly from Shelburne, Cobourg, Ontario ,and Bridgewater, N.S, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on October 28, 2007. Born in Lockeport, he was a son of the late Lewis and Sarah (Lloyd) Huskilson. Lloyd was a graduate of the N.S. Technical School qualifying him for employment, initially with Marconi Ltd. in Montreal, before returning to Shelburne to work for Fairbanks Morse Ltd. in the War effort. Within the year he joined the Canadian Army serving until cessation in the Provost Corp that prepared him for his years of service as a policeman in the Town of Cobourg, Ontario. “Cute” retired from there in 1972 to the Acker homestead in Shelburne where his name is synonymous with “baseball”. “Cute’s” exploits on the ball field are legendary. At the age of 15 he started his career in senior baseball - a career that spanned three decades as an active player. Renowned as a pitcher, feared as a batter, he was the best that Shelburne County ever produced. Wherever he went, Lockeport to Liverpool, to Sydney in the pro Colliery League, to Halifax in the Halifax District League, Cute is numbered among the “best of the best”. He ended his career in Cobourg, Ontario, taking the “Rideaus” to the Eastern Ontario Championship. In retirement, back home, he became a charter member of the Provincial Recreation Commission and the first “coach” to have received the “level one” rating. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #63 as well as a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge #62 in Lockeport. He is survived by sons, Lloyd (Linda), Peterborough; Tony (Paula), Italy Cross; daughters, Helena (Trevor) Ross, Stoney Creek, Ont; Nancy (Arthur) Coakwell, Waterdown, Ont; brothers, Harold, Yarmouth; Wilfred (Marge), Shelburne; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alva Acker; brothers, St. Clair, Malcolm and Ralph; sisters, Annie, Bonnie and Thelma. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Icelandic Society of N.S. or Christ Anglican Church. October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 Steven Eugene Schofield – 46, of Kentville, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at home. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of Audrey Poehl, Aldershot, Kings County and Eugene “John” (Pat) Schofield, Sheffield Mills, Kings County. He had been employed in carpentry and also worked at Canard Poultry. He was later employed with Canada Post as a rural route mail carrier. He enjoyed sailing and working with computers. He is survived by his extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his step father, Ulli Poehl. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2007 in Hillaton Cemetery, Hillaton, Kings County, Reverend David Taylor officiated. Family flowers only by request. October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 Russell Llewellyn Chase - 91, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away Sunday October 28, 2007 (on the date on what would have been Russell & Christina’s 70th. wedding anniversary), in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Auburn, Kings Co. he was a son of the late William and Annie (Keddy) Chase. Russell had been employed with the Department of Highways, as a snow plow driver, had been a farmer, gravel truck driver, carpenter, a foreman at the Minas Basin Gas Storage and had sold vegetables around the province. He was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church and had been a resident at the Grand View Manor, Berwick. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are a son, Edward Chase, Mississauga, Ont.; daughters, Rosie (Leo Gould) Reid, Waterville; Jeanie (Paul) Martin, Cambridge Station; Mary Lou Little, Waterville; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Christina Mae Lake - Baldridge Chase; granddaughters, Nancy Chase & Clarice Falls; grandson, Brian Chase; great-grandson, Tyson Reid; brothers, Wallace, Carleton, William, Arch, Everett & Lester Chase; sisters, Rita & Gladys Chase. There was visitation for Russell from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday October 30, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday October 31. Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiated. Burial was in the Berwick Cemetery. October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 ANNIS, Maxwell Herbert “Max” – 84, of Nictaux Falls, NS passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Nictaux, February 11, 1923, he was a son of the late Herbert and Ruth (Miller) Annis. Max was a veteran of the Second World War. He worked at the Mess at CFB Greenwood, Dwight Ross and the Russell Gordon schools where he retired after 28 years. He loved saddle horses and enjoyed going to shows and the exhibitions. Max loved antique automobiles, anything prior to 1940 and was a proud owner of a '23 model T Ford, which was the same age he was. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Garnet) Keddy, Bloomington; sons, Rev. William “Bill” (Duska), Moncton, NB; Rodney (Juanita), Nictaux; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Florence Jeremy; daughter in infancy; son Stephen; sisters, Kay Oakes; Ethel Ritcey and Gertrude Hoffman; brothers Robert, Roland and Clayton. Special thanks to Debbie Adams, or “little Debbie” as Max called her, for taking care of him and going above and beyond these past few years. Thanks as well to the VON Home Support Workers who cared for him these past few months; Dr. MacKinnon; and the nurses and other caregivers at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for all their care. October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 Sandra Lea VanMeekeren – 64, of Centreville, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis and Crohn’s Disease. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of Helen A. (Rockwell) Balsor, Evergreen Home for Special Care and the late Roscoe E. “Ruck” Balsor. Sandra began her working career with the Bank of Montreal, Kentville, was also employed for 15 years with Formex/Huyck Canada, and later with the Valley Regional Hospital in the Personnel Department from where she retired following 16 years of service. She is survived by her husband, Fred, Centreville; a brother, Jack (Lou) Balsor, Kentville; a sister, Mona Tzagarakis, Kentville; four nieces and one nephew. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007, and also where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2007, Chaplain Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet officiated. October 28, 2007 to  November 3, 2007 DOUCETTE, Stanley Lawrence – 56, Hubbard’s Point, Yarmouth Co., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born July 8, 1951 in Hubbard’s Point, he was a son of Laurent Doucette, Hubbard’s Point, and the late Isabelle (LeBlanc) Doucette. He was self-employed as a drywall finisher. Stanley was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing and spending time at the camp in Canaan. He was a jokester who enjoyed sharing many laughs with his family and many friends. Besides his father, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janine M. (Surette) Doucette; his children, Denise (Alex) Nickerson and Michael Doucette, as well as his granddaughter, Jayden Doucette, all of Hubbard’s Point. Also surviving are his sisters, Doris (Harold) Deveau, Lake Doucette; Pauline (Hayden) Landry, Jean Doucette, both of Hubbard’s Point; Therese Surette, Sluice Point; many nieces and nephews. Visitation took place from 7-9 PM on Wednesday, October 31 in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, November 1 from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Crepin Khonde officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
