DEVEAU, Annie May, 98, of Villa Acadienne Meteghan, formerly of Salmon River, died Oct. 26, 2007, in Villa Acadienne. Funeral in St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Salmon River. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Donald Emerson Haines – 88, of Kentville, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Friday, October 26, 2007 in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital Veterans Unit, Middleton, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and Cancer. Born in Aylesford, he was the younger son of the late Percy and Idella (Mapplebeck) Haines. Donald was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Communications Officer and was stationed overseas in England and Africa. He was an active member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, the Royal Canadian Legion, Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, and the Masonic Order. Donald enjoyed reading, woodworking, playing cards, dancing and working in his garden in Morden. He is survived and greatly missed by two daughters, Donna (Ron) Gerrard, Kentville; Adrienne Haines, Kentville; grandchildren, Michele Gerrard (Andy Willoughby), Craig Gerrard (Cynthia Bush), Nicole Gerrard and Dakota Hopper; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Raina and Mikayla Gerrard and Asya Willoughby. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, the former Edith Margeson; a brother, Ronald; a nephew, David. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiated. A private family interment for both Donald and Edith took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Wayne Burrell Church - 58, Leminster, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2007. Born in Windsor on April 20, 1949, he was the son of Florence (Church) Singer, Vaughans. Raised in Vaughans, Wayne lived with his loving grandparents, Dave and Emma (Keddy) Church. Wayne was a very kind and loving person to all he knew and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Wayne has a great love for animals and he was especially proud of his beautiful horse “Prince.” Wayne is survived by his loving family, his mother Florence (Church) Singer, Vaughans; daughter Amanda Lee, Spryfield; sisters Doreen Wasson, Lockartville; Charlene Singer, Vaughans; Gail Singer, Ontario; and brother Dale Singer, Ontario. Wayne was predeceased by brothers Craig and Gerry, sister-in-law Kim and his loving grandparents David and Emma (Keddy) Church. Visitation was held at his sister’s home at 968 Lockhartville Road on Thursday, November 1, from 2-4 and 6-9 pm. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the Pentecostal Church in Leminster with Pastor Jack Hooper officiating. Burial was held in the Vaughans Community Cemetery. Jamie William Pineo – 40, of Stony Plain, Alberta, formerly of Kentville, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007 in Alberta as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Kentville, he was a son of Cliff (Helen) Parrish, Centreville, Kings County and the late Alberta (Pineo) Parrish. He was a leader, a mentor, a great loving family man and a friend to several. He gave his all at everything and asked for nothing in return. Jamie loved to play ball, tinker, and listen to music. He especially liked to hear the engines roar and thoroughly enjoyed the taste of Tim Horton’s. He is survived by his wife, Sherrie (Cunningham) Pineo, Stony Plain; three sons, Billy (Patricia), Cold Lake, Alberta; Cubby and Kyle, both of Stony Plain; three brothers, Clifford (Annette), Stony Plain; Robbie (Tammy) and Bruce, both of Kentville; a granddaughter, Alexis; three nieces, Stephanie, Hailey and Brandi; six nephews, Jacob, Tyson, Greg, Josh, Sam and Alex; three sisters-in-law, Robin Benjamin, Auburn, Kings County; Sueann, Kentville; Pearl, New Minas; mother-in-law, Minnie Cunningham, Kentville; brother-in-law, Dave Benjamin, Auburn; numerous other family and friends. COTTREAU, Donald Frank - 79, Yarmouth, passed away suddenly October 27, 2007, in Yarmouth County. Born in Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Eloi and Theresa Cottreau. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mary Pauline; son, Neal (Veronica), North Attleboro, Mass.; daughter, Eva (Don), North Attleboro, Mass.; stepdaughter, Donna (Eugene), Yarmouth; stepson, David (Jan), Halifax; brother, David (Carol), Sand Beach; sisters, Pauline Blades, Yarmouth; Marie, Randolph, Mass.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Hilda and Geraldine (both of Boston); brother, Raymond (Medford, Mass.); stepson, George. Donald was a loving grandfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked at Cosmos Imperial Mills before moving to Foxboro, Mass., where he worked for Great A&P Tea Co. for 25 years before moving back to Yarmouth, where he and his wife managed Lakelawn Motel before his retirement. He will be sadly missed by his pet, Caylee. Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where funeral was held Friday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., Rev. James Henry "Hank" Houston, age 73, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on April 9, 1934, in Truro, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Alexander and Annie (McAloney) Houston. Hank moved at the age of eight, to South Porcupine, Ontario, where he spent his youth. He joined the RCN and served on the HMCS Micmac and at the Newport Naval Radio Station, Newport Corner. On April 9, 1961, he started working for the Sobeys Group and retired on April 9, 1999, from TRA/Sobeys, after 38 years. Hank was a member of the Windsor United Church, the Men's Club and a former member of the Windsor Fire Department. Hank is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Eleanor Dorman, whom he married on April 7, 1955. Surviving also are daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" and Vivian "Vee", of Windsor. His chosen family Helen and Dewar Lindsay; granddaughter, Margaret "Maggie" Sangster and husband Paul, and their children, Anthony, Mark and Lindsay; granddaughter Amy Elizabeth Lindsay; grandson, Rob Lindsay and wife Melanie, and their children, Kathleen, Steven & Ryleigh. He is also survived by maternal aunts, Sally (Earle) Jackson and Vivian McAloney; sister-in-law, Isobel (Bill) Houston; special sister-in-law, Katherine Dorman and her family; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Guy LeRoy; his twin, William Arthur Houston; sister, Ann Small and her husband, Matthew; also brother-in-law, and best friend, Dale Dorman. Harry Gordon Balsor - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father and grandfather on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at home in Kentville. Born in 1912 in Black Rock, he was the son of the late Archibald and Marion (Foote) Balsor. He was a retired railroad engineer for the D.A.R., Kentville for 35 years. He was also the owner of Balsor & Son Construction for many years, building many houses in Kings County. His greatest love was his family. Always putting others first, he offered a helping hand to anyone in need. He is survived by son, Gerald (Violet) of Upper Dyke; daughters: Marjorie (Doug) Fitch, of Lakeville; Marie Corbin (Ed Dykens) of South Williamston; grandchildren: Steven Balsor, Kim Kozoriz, Alan Balsor, Terry Kee, Randy Kee, Debra Longley, Darlene Stott, Darren Fitch, and Angela Plater; 16 great grandchildren. Linda Catherine Brewer – 59, of Waterville, Kings County, passed away suddenly at home on October 24, 2007. Born in Halifax on May 18, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Augustine (Lucas) Brewer. A loved sister, aunt, daughter, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be sadly missed by 4 sisters and a brother; son Tommy (Susan) Hubley; daughter: Donna Hubley, grandchildren, Chad, Daniel, Devin, Christopher, Anthony and Kelly; great grandchildren Brooke and Eric and her beloved dog, Jessie. She was predeceased by her partner Richard Hiltz. A memorial service was held Monday, October 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, (Exit 14) Coldbrook. Pastor Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet will officiated. Cremation has taken place and the interment will take place at a later date. CLARKE, Emily Doris, (“Chris” as she was known to many), 80, passed away in hospital in England on Friday, October 26, 2007 shortly after returning to England to live with a life-long friend. She was born in England on March 19, 1927. After serving her country during World War II, in 1957 she moved to Nova Scotia and worked in the Halifax/Dartmouth area until the 70’s when she moved to Churchover. She then worked at various jobs in Shelburne, the last job being at Roseway Manor. She had a great love for animals, especially dogs. She was predeceased by a sister and two brothers in England, one of whom was killed during the War. She is survived by family in England, including two sisters, her best friend for 74 years, Eileen Demming and in Nova Scotia, her adopted Goulden family from Churchover, who always knew her as Aunt Chris. She will also be sadly missed by her many friends in Nova Scotia.
