Shelburne Municipality will commit $39,000 towards the aging Shelburne County Arena over the next three years.
That money will be added to $117,000 from the province and $39,000 from the Town of Shelburne, along with funds raised by the local arena association and any funds that can be pressed out of the federal government.
The money will be used to fix the roof of the aging facility and make other needed improvements over the next few years.
During last week’s Shelburne Municipal Council meeting a call for a $117,000 grant from the federal government was made to match the provincial funding and a letter will be sent to MP Gerald Keddy with the request.
Municipal Warden Paulette Scott noted that millions of dollars of government funding have been recently announced for a new arena and recreational facility in neighboring Queens County.
