October 14, 2007 to October 20, 2007 OLIVER, Marguerite Alice 70, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully, October 14, 2007 in Queens General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Agnes (Doherty) Beazley. Marg was a former co-owner and operator of Clay Corner Crafts in Liverpool. She was an avid crafter and potter, enjoying quilting, knitting and needlepoint. She was also an avid bridge player. She is survived by her husband George W.; daughters: Shelley (John) Oickle of Rothesay, NB, Julie (Larry) Romain of New Glasgow; sons: Michael Yarn of Qualicum, BC., Paul (Paula) Yarn of Dartmouth, NS., Thomas (Sandy) Oliver of Edmonton, AB., Stephen (Janis) Oliver of Dartmouth, NS., William (Kathleen) Oliver of Toronto, ON; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother Paul (Diane) of Waverley. She was predeceased by her first husband Roy Yarn. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 17th, 2007. Rev. October 14, 2007 to October 20, 2007 PORTER (SLOWEY), Elisabeth – passed away peacefully at her home in Darlings Lake, Yarmouth Co., on Monday, October 15, 2007. She was born in Jarrow, England on October 30, 1922 (nee Shimmin). Elisabeth worked as an administrative assistant for Dell Publishing in New York for several years, before moving to Nova Scotia in 1972. She then worked at the Yarmouth Library until her retirement. Elisabeth sponsored several overseas children, had a love for animals and was an avid reader. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her two young children in England; her husband, Robert C. Porter; a stepson, Jack Porter, and a granddaughter, Shelley Batherson. She is survived by her stepchildren, Robert S. (Patsy) Porter, Comox, BC; Karen Batherson, Darlings Lake; Cheryl (Richard) Wallace, Ireton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and let us not forget her dog Heidi, a special companion and friend to her. Visitation took place from 10 to 10:45 AM, Thursday in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, immediately followed by the funeral mass at 11 AM from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert St., Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Forest Street, Yarmouth. Memorial donations may be made to a local branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses, or to the SPCA. October 14, 2007 to October 20, 2007 Mary Lillian O’Neil - 69, Port Williams, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2007 at home with her family by her side. Born in Cole Harbour, Halifax County, she was the daughter of Margaret Campbell. Mary had a great love for her family who brought her great joy. Some of the things she enjoyed in life were music, sharing meals with lots of friends and family, coloring, dancing and sharing good times. Cooking and bingo in her early years also brought her great joy. Mary worked at the corner store in Kentville for 22 years for the late Bev Conrad, and she was also employed for some time at Peter’s Lunch in Kentville. Besides her mother, Mary is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Fred O’Neil, Port Williams; daughters Lynn (Bruce) Keddy, New Minas; Diane (Richard Acker) Cooper, New Minas; sons Brian O’Neil, Port Williams; Robert Ritchie, Cape Breton; as well as 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by son Dean O’Neil. Cremation has taken place and no visitation by request. The Memorial Service was held on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 2:00 pm from Serenity Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1212 Parkway Drive, Port Williams, NS, with Rev. Dorothy Huntley officiating. October 14, 2007 to October 20, 2007 FitzRandolph, Albert L. - 92, of Middleton, formerly of South Williamston and Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 in the Veterans Unit, Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. It is with great sadness we announce his passing. He has been well cared for by the wonderful staff of the Middleton Veterans Unit for the past ten years. Born in South Williamston, January 19, 1915, he was the only son of the late Frank A. and Frances Elizabeth (Robblee) FitzRandolph. He joined the Army in 1940 and was a Sergeant in the 52nd Anti Tank 3rd Division. While overseas he earned many medals, one of which being the Bronze Star. He was one of only two Canadians to receive this from the US Government. The citation reads “Sergeant Albert L. FitzRandolph, Canadian Army, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations on 21 July 1944 near Sassy, France. Sergeant FitzRandolph, with his gun crew of the 3rd Canadian Anti –Tank Regiment, was acting in support of an infantry attack when an enemy shell hit beside his gun tower, inflicting five casualties in his crew. Without hesitation, he manned the gun tower and drove the vehicle unaccompanied to the infantry objective, maintaining effective support in spite of the fiercest opposition. His determination, courage, and disregard for personal safety were an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact. By Command of General Eisenhower.” After returning home he owned and operated the family farm in South Williamston and later worked at CFB Greenwood until retirement. He was a life member of Branch #112 Royal Canadian Legion, Lawrencetown and Evangeline #94 Masonic Lodge; a member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church since April 27, 1930; and a past member of the Lawrencetown & District Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Wendell) MacGregor and Catherine Lowe, both of Lawrencetown; grandchildren, Bruce (Susan) MacGregor, Edmonton, AB; James (Janet) MacGregor, Nictaux; Allen (Becky) MacGregor, Port Perry, ON; Victoria (Gary) Gaul, Brickton; Steven (Ann Marie) Lowe, New Minas; Denise (Chris) Naugler, South Williamston; ten great grandchildren; sister, Lillian Clarke, Mississauga, ON. He was predeceased by his wife the former Lois Pearle Hupman; great granddaughter, Carly MacGregor; son-in-law Arthur Lowe and sisters, Marjorie and Frances. Visitation was held Tuesday, October 16, 2007 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902)825-3448 where Evangeline #94 Masonic Lodge conducted their service, followed by a Royal Canadian Legion tribute conducted by Lawrencetown Branch #112. Funeral Service was held Wednesday, October 17, 2007 in the Middleton Funeral Home, Rev. Barbara Bishop officiated. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. October 14, 2007 to October 20, 2007 Erma Marguerite Ross - 91, of Berwick, Kings Co. passed away Wednesday October 17, 2007, at home, in Fundy Villa, Berwick. Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Williams) Ratchford. Erma was a member and past matron of Laurel Chapter # 67, Order of the Eastern Star, Berwick and was a member of the Trinity United Church, Waterville. Erma spent her younger years in Waterville. In her early married life, Erma & Eanie owned Ross’s Meat Market and Fish & Chip operation in Waterville. Erma and her husband enjoyed traveling to Eastern Star meetings & shared fraternal friendships. After Eanie’s death, Erma enjoyed many bus tours and trips to Florida with close friends. She resided at the Grand View Manor for 17 years, where she was President of the Apartment Club. Later, Erma moved to Fundy Villa, where she enjoyed the company of friends & staff. Erma’s greatest joy in life was her family. She will be sadly missed by her family & friends. Surviving are daughter, Heather (Wayne) Hatchard, Kentville; sister, June (Farrell) Embree, Halifax; grandchildren, Susan (Darren) Crowell, Bridgewater; Katherine (Darren) O’Rourke, Centreville; Sherry (Robert) Spencer, Coldbrook; great-grandchildren, Ryan & Kesley O’Rourke, Centreville; Colton & Kristen Spencer, Coldbrook; niece, Joan (Richard) McGloin; grandniece, Meaghan McGloin, Halifax. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William “Eanie” Ross. Visitation for Mrs. Ross was held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday October 20, in the H.C.
