The Municipality of Barrington will be arranging for the demolition of the former Victoria Hotel property in the near future. Owner Mario Cormier was informed in June that he had until Sept. 10 to demolish the former Victoria Hotel and attached buildings at civic #3519 Highway No. 3, Barrington Passage, or to have necessary repairs carried out.
Cormier has failed to carry out either request after repeated warnings.
The cost of the required work will be added to the property’s tax account.
During discussion of the matter at the last council meeting, Councillor Donna-LeBlanc Messenger said residents in the area had approached her with concerns about rats fleeing the building during demolition and seeking refuge elsewhere in the area.
It was decided that pest control officers would be on site during the demolition.
