As the new recreation director for the Municipality of Barrington, Anna Kenney says she’d like to become more involved with the Healthy Kids, Active Kids; Child and Youth Strategy; and Take the Roof off Winter programs, as well as develop a program for older women focusing on health, physical activity, and their well being.
Fresh from her previous position as rec director for the Town of Clark's Harbour (full time from 1990 to 1996 then part time for11 years), Kenney is quickly getting a handle on priorities.
“One thing that I have to work on immediately is ‘Turning on the Lights, Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1,” she said.
Kenney studied Plant Science at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and completed a one-year horticultural program at NSCC Kingstec. She began working for the college before she graduated and stayed three years.
She became interested in the Recreation Management Degree at Acadia University, studied for that and landed the job as rec director with Clark’s Harbour.
As someone involved with recreation for the past 17 years, Kenney says she’s learned many things regarding the profession.
“Trends come and go and you have to keep pace with them,” she said.
