CSO for dangerous driving
An Aylesford man has received a term of house arrest for dangerous driving.
In Kentville provincial court Oct. 10, Judge Alan Tufts imposed a three-month conditional sentence order (CSO) on Christopher Alfred Mosher, 28, for driving in a manner dangerous to the public.
The CSO is in the form of house arrest, with the usual exceptions for work, education, appointments and emergencies.
The judge also prohibited Mosher from driving in Canada for a year.
Mosher committed the offense in Waterville May 14, 2006. He pleaded guilty to the charge June 19.
Jailed for threat
Judge Tufts found Hantsport resident Brandon Matthew Crewe, 25, guilty Oct. 11 of uttering a threat to cause death to a police officer.
The judge sentenced Crewe to 14 days in custody, to be served consecutively with a current sentence.
Crewe uttered the threat during an incident at Lumsden Pond June 30.
Crewe is currently serving a sentence for other offenses related to the same incident.
Sexual assault, break-ins
George Brenen Alexander Shafie Smith (aka Milne), 24, pleaded guilty Oct. 10 to sexual assault and to two counts break and entry with intent to commit an indictable offense.
Judge Tufts remanded Smith until his Oct. 30 sentencing hearing.
Smith had been remanded by consent since Sept. 6
Smith committed the first break-in in Kentville Aug. 11, the second Aug. 18 and the sexual assault Aug. 31.
Breached probation
Judge Claudine MacDonald found Nictaux resident Kenneth Roger Armstrong, 22, guilty Oct. 10 to failing to comply with a probation order.
The judge fined Armstrong $200 plus a $30 victim surcharge, or three days in custody on willful default.
Armstrong committed the breach Nov. 25, 2006.
Grants conditional discharge
Judge Tufts granted Aylesford resident Kelly Leanne Kenneally, 34, a conditional discharge on an assault charge.
The discharge is pending nine months’ reporting probation.
The probation conditions include, among others, Kenneally take assessment, counselling or treatment recommended by Corrections officials and she make no contact with the victim.
The charge resulted from an incident in Aylesford April 15. Kenneally pleaded guilty to the charge June 27.
In other court matters
Judge MacDonald found Michael Stephen Hiltz, 22, guilty Oct. 10 of failing to obey a traffic sign, contrary to the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicles Act, and fined him $50 plus a $7.50 victim surcharge or $100 costs.
Hiltz committed the offense in Wolfville Oct. 6, 2006.
