Some may remember him from the band “Ransom” while others visit his Liverpool, Queens County shop for a haircut; whatever the case, Rick Henneberry’s first CD launch will take place 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Astor Theatre.
With 25 years of playing and writing experience, Henneberry says making a music CD was “something I always wanted to do.”
He calls it “bluesy rock roots music,” with two distinct sounds. The title is Double Vision to depict the ranges of music. He adds people accustomed to his gentler acoustic side might be surprised by some of the music.
The song lyrics cover a variety of topics.
For example, a song called “Monsters in my closet” deals with abuse in the household and how it affects children, explains Henneberry.
“Woe is me” is more of a social song about how people get caught up in the rat race.
There are some deep topics along with ones he wrote while “three quarters the way through a bottle of Jack Daniels on ladies night,” he jokes.
Henneberry has played in cover bands locally as well as in Halifax over the years, saying he has gone through the gamut as far as different influences are concerned.
Although he cannot read a note, Henneberry plays guitar, bass as well as the keyboard.
It took about four months to record his CD at Feswick Productions in Broad River.
“He’s the best unfounded talent around here,” adds Henneberry.
“I’m really happy with it,” he says about the CD. “I think that we got all the different flavours that I was hoping for.”
He called in two members from his old high school band, Ransom to play on his CD.
The whole band will be at the CD launch, he adds.
“The actual launch is going to be a hoot,” says Henneberry.
Right now his CD is available at his barbershop in Liverpool.
After the release CDs will be available around the community, as well as at a few stores in Bridgewater.
