What part of NO does the Yarmouth Muncipal Council not understand?

The citizens of the municipality are saying NO to the proposed “cadillac” style $4-million-plus Municipal building complete with fitness center, court yard and other unnecessary amenities.

How do members of the Council and the C.A.O. defend such extravagant decision making and spending? Well on the CJLS weekender Deputy Warden Noble defended such a lavish decision on his right to make such decisions by virtue of being elected to make them. What!

He is partially right. Elected officials are elected to make decisions. However, he seems to miss some important aspects of elected duty and that is he and others were elected to make decisions that contain common sense, are in the best interest of the community, are fiscally responsible and based on priorities of the citizens and community. Clearly this decision does not contain those basic requirements yet he and others continue to defend it.

Then C.A.O. Moses defended his self-serving position by stating that they don’t want to have an office in town, don’t want amalgamation, and don’t want to renovate the existing building. Not once did he use the word need. In my view and many others we don’t need a new building, we can renovate the existing one at half the cost or less, we don’t need employees of the municipality making and defending positions that are self-serving, we don’t need naysayers who are against amalgamation without giving it a chance. Most of all we don’t need more elected officials who dismiss and refuse to listen to those they claim to represent.

If Council feels they have the best interest of the Municipality in mind then put the question to their bosses the citizens and see what answers they get. If they continue to refuse to do so (which I believe they will because they know the answer they will get) I hope the citizens of the Municipality have long memories come the next election. If not we all get what we deserve.
