DEDRICK, Captain Alden K “A.D.”- 62, Hartz Point, Shelburne County, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Birchtown, he was the son of the late Captain Harley and Annie ( Rollison) Dedrick. He was a fisherman most of his working life and the last 11 years he owned and operated Dedrick Traps on Cape Sable Island. He was very proud of his children’s accomplishments and got great joy from being a grandfather. He loved to go hunting, attending family gatherings and especially playing ring toss. Surviving are sons, Jody K, Gunning Cove; Derek ( Natalie), Welshtown and daughter ,Michele, Barrington; granddaughter, Susannah Marie, Barrington; brothers, Harding ( Loretta), Shelburne; Harley ( Debbie) Woodlawn Drive; Terry ( Janet), Gary ( Gerry), Hartz Point; sisters, Gloria Davis ( Chris), Annapolis Royal; Audrey Morgan (Dave), Lunenburg; sister in-laws, Julie and Anna, Hartz Point. He was predeceased by brothers, Burnley and Kenneth and sister, Eunice. Funeral service was held 10 Oct. at Christ Anglican Church, Shelburne. Rev. Robert Coote officiated. MUISE, Simon “Noah” – 83, Surette's Island, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 24, 1923 in Surette's Island, he was a son of the late Simon and Sylvie (LeBlanc) Muise. Noah was a veteran of the Second World War, having answered the call to serve at the age of 16. He served with the North Novies Regiment in Belgium and Scotland. He then served as a peacekeeper until 1946, after which he worked as a scallop fisherman. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155, Wedgeport, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Albert Lemenager Council 8988 in Tusket. Noah enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are daughters, Ella (Leland) Doucette, Sluice Point; Dianne (Jean) Cottreau, Wedgeport; Muriel (Melvin) Landry, Amirault's Hill; Marilyn (Briand) Pothier, Wedgeport; Nora (Maynard) Dulong, Port Maitland; Judy (Allan) Williams, Surette's Island; sons, Louis (Joanne) Muise, Raynardton; Donnie (Sheryl) Muise, Alberta; grandchildren, Renee (Jeff) Pitman, Morgan, Jamie, Treena, Chad, Todd, Heidi, Troy, Ryan, Matthew, Melissa, Natasha, Roger Jr., and Faith; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Sophia, Tori, Allyson, Tyler, Courtney, Alec, Joshua, Kennedy, Jared, Monique, Brady and Lucien; sisters, Marie Doucette, Wedgeport; Geraldine McConnell, Baltimore, Maryland. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Rita Margaret (Surette) Muise; brothers, Ulysses, Joseph and Victor; sisters, Adele, Madeline, Modeste, Celeste and Gertrude; grandson, Corey. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, with a Branch No. 155 Royal Canadian Legion Service at 7:30 p.m., followed by prayers at 8 p.m., all in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, in Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, Surette's Island, Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated, assisted by Father Crepin Khonde and Father Wielsaw Papuga. Interment took place in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-County Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses or Saint Joseph's Parish. CHALLONER, Douglas William – 76, Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 5, 1931 in Hebron, he was a son of the late Norman and Carrie (Rhyno) Challoner. Doug worked as both a truck driver and as a general maintenance man, and he enjoyed hunting in his spare time. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Anna M. (Sweeney) Challoner, along with their children, Mark (Missy) Challoner, Lake George; Carrie (Elwood) Rawding, Digby; Marsha (Troy) Surette, Arcadia; Susan (Anthony) Goreham, Upper Port LaTour; Tom Challoner, at home; grandchildren, Matthew (Kristin) Rhyno, Jana (John) Muise, Jonathan and Stephanie Rhyno, Crissy and Tommy Challoner, Chris, Jake and Cole Goreham; 7 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Norman (Jean) Challoner, Irving (Alice) Challoner, Willard Challoner; a step-sister, Ada Outhouse; a grandson, Tyler Douglas Rhyno. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. A graveside memorial service and interment were held in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery, Parade Street, Yarmouth, a at 3 PM, Friday, October 12, Pastor Larry Pennel officiated. WOLFE, Donald “Don” Frederick – 96, Pictou, formerly of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co. and Wallace, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully on October 7, 2007 in Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, with his family by his side. Born and raised in River Hebert, he was the son of the late Charles and Clara (Gates) Wolfe. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Rosella “Rose” (Elliott). He will be sadly missed by sons Allan (Carolyn), Truro; Robbins, Scarborough, Ont.; Wayne (Phyllis) Halifax; twin daughters Corina (Allan) Balcom, Miramichi, N.B. and Colleen (Gerald) Thompson, North Wallace; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Irene, River Hebert. He was predeceased by brothers Darrell, Roy, George, Murray and Arnold and sisters Dorothy and Helen. He graduated from Normal College, Truro and Mount Allison University and dedicated his life to the teaching profession for over 30 years in various communities in Nova Scotia. He served his country in the R.C.A.F. from 1941-45. His spare time was taken up traveling with the family, participating in various community organizations as well as gardening and golfing. He was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the St. John’s Mens Club, Wallace. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Wallace United Church, Rev. Jane Doull officiated. Interment will be arranged at a later date in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB, Lawrencetown Youth Arena, or a charity of your choice. A special thanks is extended to the entire staff at Shiretown Nursing Home, who provided loving care for Don, especially after the passing of his wife Rose. McNEIL, Joseph Harold - 83, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away Monday, October 8, 2007, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Joe resided in Haliburton Place for the last year of his life, prior to that he lived on the family farm on College Road, Windsor. With his surviving brother John, they operated the family farm all of Joe’s working life. He was a well-known Guernsey cattle and purebred pig breeder. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Kate McNeil. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There was no visitation by request. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 11, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. David Curry officiating. Interment was held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. McBRIDE, William Irvin – 83, South Range, Digby Co., died Oct. 9, 2007 in Digby General Hospital. Funeral was held in St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Caledonia. Burial in the parish cemetery.

STUART, ALICE ROSELLA - 83, of East Green Harbour, Shelburne County, passed away in Roseway Hospital, Shelburne Co., on October 10, 2007. Born in Brooklyn, Queens Co., she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Bessie Mae ( Hubley) Zwicker. She worked at Swimm Brothers all her working life. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family and husband. She is survived by husband, Silas; sons, Stanley ( Lorna), West Green Harbour; Wallace ( Jennifer) East Green Harbour; Thomas, East Green Harbour; daughters, Joyce Buchanan, East Green Harbour; Sally Coe, Vancouver; Eva ( Jean ) Camille Rouselle, LeGoulet, N.B; Mary, Lockeport; brothers, Hugh Zwicker, Shelburne; Maxwell Zwicker, Halifax Co; sister, Myrtle McCarthy, Pictou County; 24 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter, Betty ; brothers, Guy, George, Raymond and Murray; sisters, Marjorie, Lillian and Marion. There was a public graveside service in Lockeport Cemetery. HAZEL, Doris Gertrude, age 76, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2007, in the Q.E.II Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in Three Mile Plains, Hants County. She was a daughter of the late Harry & Hattie (Dykens) Swinamer. Surviving are her husband, Herman Swinamer; daughters, Joanne (Dewey) Haley, Windsor; Joy (Richard Begin), Three Mile Plains; sons, Jimmy (Theresa) Hazel, Alberta; Vernon (Stacey) Hazel, Three Mile Plains; grandsons, Christopher Henshaw & Darrin Henshaw; grandaughter, Deanna Henshaw; brother, Raymond “Ben” (Dorothy) Swinamer, Three Mile Plains; four great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews. The Reverend Canon David Collins Reid, BA BEd MDiv – 66, Cole Harbour, formerly of St. Lambert, Quebec, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at the Dartmouth General Hospital on October 11, 2007. Born in St. Lambert, he was a son of the late Lewis and Mabel (Collins) Reid. David is survived by his beloved wife, Patti, of 41 years, loving son, Tim (Jennifer) Reid, daughters, Angela (Scott) Logan and Alison (Sean) Farrell and his four grandchildren, Kayleigh, Ben, Miranda and Cameron. He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Glenna (John) Vipond and twin brother, Tom (Rose Ann) Reid, and many nieces and nephews. A man of deep faith and compassion, he touched many lives through his 39 years of ministry. After his ordination as priest in 1968 he served faithfully in Durham, England, prior to serving the Diocese of Nova Scotia & PEI in Neil’s Harbour-Ingonish, Annapolis-Granville, St. James, Kentville, St. Francis by the Lakes, Lower Sackville and The Church of St. Andrew, Cole Harbour. He was actively involved in many diocesan and national committees and organizations including; acting as an examining Chaplain for the Diocese, serving on the National Financial Management and Development Fund and chairing the Growth for Ministry Fund, Planned Giving and the Leap for Faith campaigns. He served on A.C.P.O and on the St. Anne’s Camp Committee, and was involved in the Cursillo and T.E.C. movements. He served as president of the local Canadian Cancer Society in both Annapolis Royal and Kentville. He acted as a spiritual director and mentor for many (in both a formal and informal capacity), as well as serving as a student supervisor in conjunction with the Diocese and the Atlantic School of Theology. David had a great passion for life, and lived each moment to its fullest touching lives in his personal life as much as in his professional. He loved to ski and golf and was able to make lifelong friends during a single trip up the chairlift. Vacationing with extended family, particularly at Moody Beach in Maine was a joy for him and those who gathered with him. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2007 in St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church, Lower Sackville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2007. A private interment for family and extended family took place in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, Parish of St. James, Kentville. Gary Stuart Pineo– Winnipeg, Manitoba - 53, passed away October 10 2007, with life partner Melvina at his side after a long battle with cancer. Born in Wolfville N.S., he was the son of the late Stuart R. Pineo and Phyllis I (Clowry) (Pineo) Francis. Surviving are his sisters; Brenda and Nancy. Children: Emmylou, Melissa Ann - Pasha Lynn - Jason Stuart Taylor. Grandchildren (twins) Hailey and Desiree and Cameron, neices and nephews, stepfather, Yvon, stepsisters and brother, stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Predeceased by brother Kevin. Personal wishes for a private memorial and spreading of his ashes are taking place in Winnipeg, at his homestead, where two apple trees have been planted in his honor and a private memorial service to follow at the Forest Hill Baptist Church.
