Mary Susan Selby – It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Selby, Avonport, Kings County announce her sudden death on Friday, October 5, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Ross on February 28, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Frederick W. and Gertrude F. (Sawler) Hiltz. Throughout her life, Mary was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. As well, she was very supportive of her husband’s love of oxen. Her love of and special skills for cooking was enjoyed by family, friends and the surrounding community. Never idle for a minute, she spent many hours reading, crocheting, knitting and took great pleasure in singing hymns and drew strength from her spiritual readings. She is survived by sons, Garnet (Ruth), Avonport; Graham (Salley), West Brooklyn; daughters, Sharon (Brian) Hardy, Lloydminster, Alberta; Lila (Harry) Schurman, Bluff Road, Lockhartville; Joy (Rick) Salsman, Waterville; grandchildren, Cherie and Michelle Selby, Tamara (Chris) McKee, Andrew (Maybelle) Schurman, Brock Salsman, Becky Hardy, Jason and Bobby Selby; great grandchildren, Ewan McKee, Tamia and Gabrielle Schurman; brothers, Edgar and John Hiltz, both of Aylesford; sisters, Hazel Keddy, Forties; Doris Campbell and Ruby Reid, both of Elnora, Alberta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; a brother, Robert; sisters, Nita Eldridge and Beatrice Hill. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Avonport Baptist Church, Reverend Gail Whalen-Dunn officiated. A private family burial took place at the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Following the burial, the family returned to the church for a time of fellowship and refreshments. PETTERSON, Bryon Larry – 48, born in Digby, died Oct. 5, 2007 in QE11 Sciences Centre, Halifax. Funeral was held in East Preston United Baptist Church. Burial in East Preston Cemetery.

MUISE, Donald Joseph “Bucky” – 83, Cann Street, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Bucky was a veteran of the second World War, having served with the First Special Service Force, and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. He had worked for Laurence Sweeney Fisheries for 27 years. Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of the late Edward and Minnie (Ellis) Muise. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marjorie (Muise) Muise; sons, Irvin (Madge), Yarmouth; Marcel (Fleurette), Verdun, Que.; Donnie (Karen), Calgary, Alta.; daughters, Carol (Alfred), Salmon River; Kay (Allan), Wood’s Harbour; Jackie (Bob), Yarmouth; Debbie (Greg), Dartmouth; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a brother Alfie (Dorothy), Yarmouth. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, with a Legion Service at 7:30, followed by prayers at 8 PM, all in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 2 PM, Monday, October 8 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Barbara Elizabeth McKnight (nee Bain) - On October 5, 2007, at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, Barbara Elizabeth McKnight (nee Bain) passed away at the age of 88. She will be remembered with love by her children Natalie (Malcolm) King of Edmonton, Paul (Maureen) McKnight of London, Carol (Max Minnis) McKnight of Auckland, NZ, and Pat McKnight of Saint John, NB; also by her grandchildren Alana, Jessalyn and Stephanie King, and David (Andrea) and Sheila McKnight. She was the dear wife of the late Rev. Earle T. McKnight; mother of the late Ruth Eleanor; daughter of the late Clayton and Lena (nee Foote) Bain; and sister of the late Hubert Bain. A memorial service was held in London on Monday, October 8, 2007. Interment will take place at a later date at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens in Nova Scotia. Aubrey Lloyd Lutz - 89, Lake Paul, Kings Co., passed away Friday, October 5, 2007, at home. He was a son of the late Lloyd and Lois (Oickle) Lutz. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nellie Mae (Lacey); children, Betty (Jack), Miramichi, N.B.; Aubrey (Linda), Dartmouth; Judson (Rosalie), Morristown; Carl (Lynn), Markham, Ont.; Hilton (Lisa), South Berwick; Cheryln (Nick), Bridgetown; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews; brother, Calvin (Edie), Middleton; sister, Mirtle (Doug), Lake Paul. He was predeceased by brothers, Medford, Judson, Bernie; sister, Maxine; two great great-granddaughters. He was a kind soul, looking after his own family and those of his siblings. He loved to hunt and fish. His favorite time of year was the fall. His main wish in life was to live at Lake Paul and remain there until the end which the good Lord granted him his wish. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday October 8 and funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday October 9, both in the H.C. William Matthew “Matt” Hardy - 45, Harbourville, Kings Co. passed away peacefully at his home in Harbourville, on Friday October 5, 2007. Born in Windsor, Hants Co. on September 21, 1962, he was a son of William Patrick “Pat” (Laura) Hardy, Riverview, N.B. and Sherrill Sandra (DeMont) Hardy, Aylesford. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Joseph Patrick (Deborah) Hardy, Somerset, Kings Co., niece, Kate Hardy, nephew, Daniel Hardy; numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. He was also known as uncle Matt to Nick & Morgan Lutz & Kaylem Horsnell. He was predeceased by grandparents, William & Vivian Hardy; Fred & Hattie DeMont.; aunt, Margaret Williams & cousin, William Borowic (Arizona). Visitation for Matt took place Wednesday October 10 from 7-9 p.m. in the H.C. Everett N. “Ev” Ward, MWO-RCAF (retired) – 68, of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside. Born in Kentville, Nova Scotia on December 13, 1938, he was a son of the late Clarke and Mary (Deal) Ward. Ev joined the Armed Services in 1957 at St. Jeans, Quebec. He then served in Camp Borden, Ontario; St. Huberts, Quebec; Cold Lake, Alberta; 4 Wing Baden Baden, Germany; Greenwood and finally Selmon Park, Summerside, retiring with the rank of Master Warrant Officer. He was a member of the 1993 Provincial Senior Men's Curling Team, representing Prince Edward Island and a former member of the Military hockey and softball teams and was an employee of Summerside Selmon Park Airport. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia F. “Pat” Cochrane; his children, Heather Dorsey, Montague; Nancy (Jeff) Tarkka, Middleton; Debbie Ward (Michael Hoar), Prince George, British Columbia and Sharon (Gerry) Pollock, Summerside; grandchildren, Luke and Marshall Dorsey, Ian Tarkka, Sydney and Sam Hoar, Emma and Alissa Pollock; sisters, Louise (Bob) Nichols, Bobcaygeon, Ontario; Valerie (Allan) Mader, Kentville; sisters-in-law, Eula Hopper, Murphy Lake, Kings County; Rowlena Cochrane, The Forties, Lunenburg County; nieces and nephews. Margery Helen Starr – The death of Margery Helen Starr of Saint John, NB occured on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Rockingham, NS on February 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred (Lloyd) Boutilier. Prior to 1974 Margery had been employed as a book-keeper with Rothesay Collegiate School. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay and the Women’s Association and a member of IODE. Her favorite activities included reading and golf and she was a talented seamstress. Survived by her daughter, Mary Anderson (nee Sanford) and her partner Teun van Maastricht of the Netherlands; her son, Michael Sanford and his partner Dorothy MacDonald of Hammonds Plains, NS; daughter-in-law, Margaret Sanford of Rothesay, NB; three grandsons; William (Wendy), Timothy (Angela MacMullin) and Daniel (Annette Armitage) Sanford; four great-grandchildren; Jeffrey, Bradley, Rory and Gabrielle Sanford. Predeceased by her first husband, Neil Gordon Sanford and her second husband, Richard B. Starr. Arrangements were under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. At the request of the family there was no visiting at the funeral home. A Memorial Service was held from St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at a alter date in Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville, NS. BARR, Virginia Leah, 48, died Oct. 6, 2007, at home. Born in Digby. Funeral was held in Southville Church of Christ.
