Williams, John Douglas - the Midnight train departed the station with John on board. He died September 30 at the Moncton Hospital from the ravages of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension as related to Scleroderma. Left behind to mourn are his wonderful dance partner of 51 years, Jeanne Carlyle (nee Allen), his son Dr. John Jefferson Williams and his partner Dr. Judy Flecknell of Tatamagouche, N.S., a daughter Jane Carlyle Williams and her partner Joanna Belejac of Barrie, Ont., and a daughter Jennifer Ann Williams-Clark and her husband Dave Clark of Fredericton, N.B. A son of the late Dorothy Evangeline (nee Dakin) and John Albert Williams, he was born in Windsor, N.S. November 5, 1933. He attended Windsor Academy from kindergarten to Grade 12, later obtaining his BA (‘59) from UNB. Following graduation, he was employed briefly by Irving Oil head office in Saint John, N.B. Served a total or 37 years with the Royal Bank in various capacities, three times as a branch manager (Montreal International Airport, St. Stephen, N.B. and Sackville, N.B.). He is also survived by three grandsons; Drew Allen Williams, Garth Dakin Williams and Brett Wallace Williams and their mother Helen E. Williams, all of Tatamagouche, N.S. Also left to mourn is a brother David Seymour Williams and his wife Madelyn Frances (nee Williams) of Saint John, N.B. Two paternal aunts survive: Maxine Mae Hughson, of Port Elgin, N.B. and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Chapman, Riverview, N.B. Several nephews, grand nephews and cousins survive also. Dear old pals still behind include Marcus Baum, Dick Fillmore, Al Keilty, Phil Herron, Art Mills, Duart McLean, Ken Mounce, Art Plante, Bill Walker and Warren Weeks. Some old pals who predeceased him were Hank Chambers, Tim Young and Ernie Wyton. John enjoyed photography, music, being a railfan, camping, writing and reading. He loved to learn, was an engaging conversationalist and a good listener. He was energized by making others laugh. He collected kultch over the years, mostly paper items, believing that someday some of it will appear on the Antiques Roadshow and have great value. He participated willingly and with zest serving on various community and charitable organizations as well as fraternal clubs and other worthy causes. Kiwanis was a favorite. At his request, John’s body will be donated to science- the Dept. of Anatomy at the Dalhousie University medical department. Cremation will ultimately be carried out with burial at a later date in Windsor, N.S. Remembrances may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation or to any charity of the donor’s choice. Special thanks to the Extramural team for their dedicated service and support. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188) with visitation on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home, on Thursday, October 4 at 2 PM with Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating.

ACKER, Gordon Seldon, 67, of Shelburne, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, on Sunday, September 30, 2007. Born in Shelburne, he was a son of the late Laurie and Zella (Faye) Acker. During his lifetime he worked at several jobs, the last being with Farmers Dairy where he was employed for 34 years, 15 of which he was an independent driver. Gordie loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an excellent source of support and guidance for his family. An avid woodsman, Gordie loved hunting and fishing. His favourite pastimes were spending time at the camp with his friends and reading westerns. He is survived by his wife, the former Rosemary Mason; son, Jim (Angela), Welshtown; daughters, Trudy (Dave) Sangster, Halifax; Susan (Gerry) Quinlan, Sandy Point; Tammy, Shelburne; brothers, Norman, Woodlawn Drive; Alfred (Freda), Truro; sisters, Verna Bower and Elsie George, Sandy Point; Elizabeth Marsh, Shelburne; grandchildren, Steven, Roland, Christopher, Thomas, Sarah and Jeremy; sister in-law, Jessie Acker. He was predeceased by infant son, Warren; brothers, Bill and Warren; sister, Mabel Goodick. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from Christ Anglican Church, Shelburne with Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. Interment of ashes in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. BRUSH, Mary "Mona" - 73, of Tidal View Manor, and formerly of Wellington, Yarmouth Co., passed away September 30, 2007, in Tidal View Manor. Born on July 30, 1934, in Bathurst, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Lenard and Loretta Stever. Mona was a member of Notre Dame du Fatima Church. She worked for the IMO in Yarmouth. She loved her gardens very much. Mona was a loving mother and wife. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Benard "James" Brush; daughters, Catherine (Robert) Purdy, Rockville; Joy (James) Nicholeson, Saskatchewan; Brenda (Chris) DeViller, Melbourne; Beverly (Donald) LeBlanc, Wedgeport; son, David Brush, formerly of Yarmouth; brothers, Hebert (Gloria), Robert "Bobby" (Nancy), Fredericton; Albert "Junior" (Marion), Bathurst; sisters, Hazel Boyle, Gladys Gammon, Bathurst; Audrey (James) Sullivan, Linda (Gerald) Hutchins, Ontario; Vera Hello, Isabel Stever, Connie (Marcel) Selesse, Campbellton; Vivian (Terrence) Keeley, Richibucto; Celine (Keith) Estey, Fredericton; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation took place Wednesday from 12-3 p.m. and funeral services took place at 3 p.m. both in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Stephen Bourque officiating. KILLAM, Robert Bradbury "Bob" - 87, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2007, with family members at his side. Born and raised in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late George Killam and Mabel (Windsor) Killam, and the brother of Katy Lou McLauchlan (Alberta) and Windsor Killam (deceased in childhood). After graduating from Mount Allison and McGill Universities, he taught mechanical engineering at McGill until 1949, when he returned to Yarmouth to join the family firm, Killam Bros. He ran Killam Bros. until 1991, when he retired both himself and the firm! A passionate volunteer, he served on various boards in the Wesley and Beacon United Church for over 50 years, was the secretary-treasurer of the Old Ladies Home Society for 30 years, and was President of the Windsor Foundation for over 40 years. He loved the town of Yarmouth and served his community as councillor, engineer and mayor; as a director of the Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery; as a member of the town planning board and as a long-time director of the Grand Hotel. His other varied interests included his dear Lake Annis, golf with the boys, curling, and inventing gadgets to solve the insolvable household problems. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Kathleen Mary Miller (Macaulay); his cherished daughters, Susan (Michael Scully), Shirley (David Betts) and Sally (Tim McCullagh); his devoted grandchildren, Stephen and Jennifer and by many nieces and nephews. There was no visitation by request. Funeral service was held on Thursday, October 4, at 3 p.m. in his beloved Beacon United Church in Yarmouth, with Rev. Leslie Robinson and Rev. Ray Francis officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. PYNE (ALLEN), Eva Muriel - 63, Main Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born December 23, 1943 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Elsie Mae (Smith) Allen. Eva worked as a cook and waitress at The Snack Place in Yarmouth, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth, and was also a member of Temple Baptist Church, Yarmouth. Surviving are son, Michael Allen Pyne, Sand Beach; daughter, Crystal (Darren) Cunningham, Middle East Pubnico. Eva was a nanny and "super-gram" to many. Also surviving are step-children, Gregory (Arlene) Pyne, Hebron; Gail (Gary) Frost, Sand Beach; Lynn (Loran) Blades, Pleasant Lake; Mitchell (Cathy) Pyne, Kelly's Cove; Michael Edmond Pyne, Sand Beach; Curtis (Jody) Pyne, Hebon; brothers, James (Mary) Allen, Bear River; Lorne (Patty) Allen, Yarmouth; Chester Allen, Yarmouth; Roy Allen, Halifax; Sheldon (Gail) Allen, Ottawa; sisters, Shirley (Jackie) Boyd, Carleton; Irene (William) Nickerson, Yarmouth; Linda (Ivan) Morton, Argyle. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Captain Avard "Bubby" Pyne; step-son, Robert Pyne; sisters, Anne and Eva, both in infancy; Mabel (Allen) Tarallo; brother, Ralph Allen. BOUDREAU, Gerald Thomas - 56, Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law, Gerald Boudreau. OLIVER, Howard William Arthur – age 46, of Smith’s Cove, died Oct. 1, 2007. Funeral was held in Smith’s Cove Baptist Church.

SOLLOWS, Irvin John- 73 of Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co. passed away October 2 2007. Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of the late Walter and Lillian (Ford) Sollows. He was a member of the Port Maitland United Baptist Church. He also served on the Deacon Board for a number of years. He worked on the M.V. Bluenose and CN Marine ships for a number of years. He retired from fishing 9 years ago. He is survived by his wife the former Vivian Casey; daughter Cathy (Ian) McNicol, Ste Anne Du Ruisseau; Carol (Wayne) Newell, Port Maitland; son Scott (Wendy), Port Maitland; and 8 grandchildren; sister Bonny (Allan) Thomas, Hants Harbour, Newfoundland; brothers William (Mary), Port Maitland; Walter (Shirley), Oshawa, ONT; Allan, Vancouver. No visitation by request. Funeral services was Friday October 5th at 2:00pm in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steven Hopper officiating. Elroy William Hill Jr. – 50, of Aldershot, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at home. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Elroy Sr. and Joan (Skinner) Hill. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on cars and received his education from the Nova Scotia Community College – Kingstec Campus, Kentville, with a trade in auto body repair. He was later employed as a custodian in the Provincial Buildings in Kentville. Elroy was a kind hearted man with a great sense of humour and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his children who were his inspiration in life. He spent many hours in his garden and enjoyed growing his own food. He is survived by a daughter, Ashlee and a son, Jackson, both at home; a sister, Ramona (Glen Jefferies), Eastern Passage. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Suzanne Jackson. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, Reverend Marc Potvin officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Centreville Baptist Church Building Fund. Charles (Chuck) Bent - 50, of Greenwich, formerly of Melanson, passed away Tuesday October 3, 2007 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Kentville, he was the son of Velma (Jordan) Bent and the late Charles Bent. Chuck was employed with the town of Wolfville for 22 years with the public works department. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and his Tim Horton’s coffee. He had a special love for his granddaughter, Shilow who was everything to him. Chuck will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Chuck is survived by his mother, Velma, Greenwich; son, David, Melanson; daughter, Nellie (Joey Viner), Kentville; former wife, Patricia Atwell, Berwick; brothers, Michael (Susan), Sackville; Robert (Heidi) NL; sisters, Heather (Harvey Bouger), Beverly (Floyd Bolter), both of P.E.I; special friend, Mary Jean Borg, Wilmot. Chuck was predeceased by his father Charles. Visitation for Mr. Bent was held from 7-9 pm Friday October 5 in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151) where a funeral service was held at 2 pm Saturday October 6 with Rev. Ellen Hunt officiated. Burial took place in Gaspereau Cemetery.
