Drive-by thieves still targeting roadside stands

Annapolis RCMP handled a total of 90 calls from noon on October 1 to 9 a.m. October 7, including a number of thefts from roadside farm markets where both produce and money were stolen. In one case police are looking for a gold Windstar van. In another, a white car was seen leaving the area. Police are urging anyone with information to call 825-2000 or 665-4481.

Included in calls last week were three false 911 calls, four false alarms, eight domestic issues, and eight traffic matters.

Following are highlights of the week:

-- October 1, 2:13 p.m. Lawrencetown. Police received a report of a driver operating a vehicle while suspended. Patrols to catch the offender are ongoing.

-- October 1, 2:37, Forest Glade. Police received a report of a break and enter into a shed. Three five-gallon jugs of gas were stolen. Two containers have since been recovered.

-- October 1, 3:19 p.m. Tupperville. A local farmer reported cash and produce stolen from a roadside stand. Police are looking for a gold Windstar with two female occupants.

-- October 1, 3:33 p.m. Meadowvale. Police received a report of a suspicious person walking along the highway carrying what appeared to be a firearm. A patrol was made but the person was not located.

-- October 1, 4:36 p.m. Upper Clements. Police received a report of a break and enter into a building. Money was stolen. The investigation continues.

-- October 1, 5:55 p.m. Cornwallis. Police were contacted when a suspicious person was outside a residence yelling and screaming. The individual left prior to police arrival. A subsequent investigation revealed two females were in a dispute. No charges were warranted.

-- October 1, 9:44 p.m. Wilmot. Police, firefighters, and EHS were called to a single vehicle accident in which the vehicle was on fire and the driver had fled the scene. There were no injuries but the vehicle was destroyed. The identity of the driver could not be established. A possible suspect was later arrested for violating conditions of a recognizance order. He had outstanding warrants from Halifax and Berwick. He was taken to court the next day and has been remanded into custody pending his next court appearance.

-- October 2, 12:27 a.m. Meadowvale. Police were called to a residence after strange noises were heard. A patrol was made but no prowlers were located.

-- October 2, 9:29 a.m. Nictaux. A citizen contacted police after discovering the glass in the screen door was broken.

-- October 2, 12:07 p.m. Torbrook. Police received a report of two chain saws stolen from a property. The investigation continues.

-- October 2, 12:45 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report that two individuals were jumping over a fence near a local business. Police made a patrol but the duo had left the area.

-- October 2, 2:58 p.m. Maitland Bridge. Police received a report of a two-vehicle accident. One vehicle backed into another vehicle. There was minor damage but no injuries.

-- October 2, 3:38 p.m. Highway 201 Nictaux. Police received a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident. There were no injuries. Both vehicles were damaged.

-- October 2, 3:54 p.m. Nictaux. Police received a report of an erratic driver. Police made a patrol, located the driver, and took action.

-- October 2, 5:10 p.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of a group of youths involved in an altercation. Police made a patrol but the individuals had already departed.

-- October 2, 9:01 p.m. Lawrencetown. Police received a report of a possible assault. One youth is alleged to have assaulted another youth. The investigation continues.

-- October 2, 10:40 p.m. Deep Brook. Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police learned that the driver was parked along side the highway and was working on his laptop.

-- October 3, 1:54 a.m. Waldec. Police received a report of two cars and a truck ripping around the area. Police made a patrol, searched the area, but the offenders were not located.

-- October 3, 6:04 p.m. Nictaux. Police received a report of a driver operating his vehicle without a license. Attempts to apprehend the offender continue.

-- October 3, 8:18 p.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of a possible impaired driver last seen leaving the ESSO station. Patrols failed to locate the offender.

-- October 3, 8:28 p.m. Middleton. Police received information about possible drug activity. The investigation continues.

-- October 3, 8:40 p.m. Wilmot. Police received a report of a possible impaired driver. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the person.

-- October 4, 9:08 p.m. Allain's Creek. An area business was broken into. A quantity of copper wire and other metals were stolen. Police suspect this is part of a continuing problem of copper thefts throughout the province.

-- October 4, 7:12 p.m. Cornwallis. Police received information about drug activity occurring at the bus stop.

-- October 4, 8:38 p.m. Highway 201 Tupperville. Police received a report of thefts from a local area fruit and vegetable stand.

-- October 5, 12:36 p.m. Highway 101 Bridgetown. Police received a report of an erratic driver. Patrols were made but the offender was not located.

-- October 5, 1:39 p.m. West Dalhousie. Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle. Police attended and the matter was dealt with.

-- October 5, 3:54 p.m. Hillsburn. A concerned citizen alerted police to numerous traffic violations. Police will conduct further patrols and take appropriate action against offenders.

-- October 5, 5:27 p.m. Highway 101 Bridgetown. Police received a report of a speeding vehicle on the highway. A patrol was made but the vehicle was not located.

-- October 5, 7:23 p.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of suspicious activity in what appeared to be a group of teens. Police attended. The identities of the teens were obtained and appropriate action was taken.

-- October 5, 7:14 p.m. Cornwallis. Police received a report of a disturbance near a residence. A patrol was made but the matter appeared to have been resolved by the time police arrived.

-- October 5, 8:20 p.m. Highway 101 Bridgetown. Police received a report of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located. THere were no signs of impairment. Police believe fatigue was the problem.

-- October 5, 9:34 p.m. Meadowvale. Police received a report of possible shots fired. The investigation revealed a number of fireworks had been shot off.

-- October 5, 10:06 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report of a disturbance near Rotary Park. A patrol was made and a group of youths was found camping in the area. They were dispersed without further incident. Police received subsequent calls and discovered a group of youths had been consuming alcohol and one child was taken to hospital with possible alcohol poisoning. The matter was resolved in an appropriate fashion.

-- October 5, 10:18 p.m. Highway 101 Middleton. Police received a report of a very slow vehicle on the highway. Police made a patrol but the suspect vehicle had turned off at one of the exits.

-- October 6, 12:59 a.m. Torbrook. Police received information about a possible violation of a court order.

-- October 6, 1:20 a.m. Highway 101 Centrelea. Police received a report of a possible dangerous driver. The caller reported that a vehicle passed them at a high rate of speed. Patrols were made but the vehicle was not located.

-- October 6, 10:59 a.m. North Williamston. A suspicious vehicle report resulted in a vehicle being towed for not being properly registered.

-- October 6, 11:27 a.m. Bridgetown. Police received a report of a gas-and-go at the ESSO. The offender was located, returned, and paid up.

-- October 6, 12 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report of property damage to a storage building. A number of youth had been seen playing in the area. Police caution that this is a dangerous activity that could result in injury and property damage.

-- October 6, 1:53 p.m. Port Royal. Police received a report of a theft of money from a vegetable stand. A white-coloured car with a large dog inside was seen leaving the area. Extensive patrols through the area failed to locate the vehicle. Citizens are advised this is becoming a common occurance in the area.

-- October 6, 5:58 p.m. Spa Springs. A citizen contacted police after discovering his chain saw had been stolen from his shed.

-- October 6, 6:44 p.m. Middleton. Police received a report of a possible assault. One male was arrested. The suspect was lodged in cells overnight, was later released, and is scheduled to appear in court in November.

-- October 6, 9:16 p.m. Round Hill. Police received an abandoned vehicle complaint. The vehicle was towed for not being properly registered.

-- October 6, 9:25 p.m. Springfield. A dispute complaint results in the arrest of two males. Both subjects were in violation of court orders. The adult male was remanded into custody and later released. The youth was charged for violating a probation order. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court in November.

-- October 6, 10:26 p.m. Karsdale. Police received a report of a possible break and enter. It turned out to be unfounded.

-- October 7, 3:10 a.m. Granville Centre. Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle. A patrol was made, the vehicle was located, and police discovered the driver had pulled off the road so he could text-message his girlfriend.
