Nova Scotia Tories have chosen Eddie Nickerson of Centreville, Cape Sable Island, as their candidate for the next election.

Nickerson is employed with Barry Group Nova Scotia over the past four years as production manager in the lobster processing facility in Charlesville, and now works in bait sales.

He was first elected to Barrington Municipal Council in October of 1997 representing District 7, The Hawk, Lwr Clarks’ Harbour and South Side and has served as Deputy Warden for six years.

Nickerson says building a strong working relationship with the federal Member of Parliament and fishermen is one of his priorities.

“Most of the fishery related issues fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government and I think the fisherman have most of the answers; we have to listen to them and incorporate their ideas into the management plan and this is the message I will push forward to our federal counterparts,” he said.

“We have to look to diversify, as it is harder for the young people to enter the fishery, we need to create opportunities that will keep our people here in Shelburne County by providing alternate career choices.”

One of his objectives is to see the expansion at Bay Side Home completed as soon as possible.

“I am going to be objective, listen and work with and for all of Shelburne County, because as one person alone I cannot solve our problems, it is going to take everybody working together to make Shelburne County a better place to live and work,” he said.
