As summer wafts away on the sweet breezes of early autumn, the team at Turbine Fashion Design Studio and Café in Falmouth knows it’s time to harvest a bounty of vintage wool and cook up some cozy new styles for their fall collection.
Fabrics are sourced by owner and designer Lisa Drader-Murphy from locales such as New York City and Montreal.
They are preparing currently for the seventh annual fall fashion fiesta, Showcase 2007. In previous years this event, net proceeds of which are donated to charity via The Turbine Fund, has been held in Halifax, with last year’s show at Mill Island in Windsor.
This year’s event is set for Friday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m. at Kings-Edgehill’s new state-of-the-art Fountain Theatre.
CTV’s Liz Rigney will host the 360 guests who will be entertained by Pat Watson (accompanied by John Bird and John Duckworth) and treated to canapés as well as a chance to win a $500 Turbine shopping spree and other surprises.
Three hundred-plus Turbine pieces will be exhibited. Guests will have a chance to see the designs up close at a shopping party after the show.
The Turbine Fund is Turbine’s charitable giving arm that, since its inception, has donated $40,000 to various women’s and children’s charities locally and abroad. This year the net proceeds from Showcase will be donated to The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
