Celebrate hospice
In the spirit of a worldwide event Voices for Hospice, a group of community volunteers are presenting “Memories: a Celebration in Voice” Oct. 20 at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville. Proceeds from this event will support the
Valley Hospice Foundation.
Around the globe this month, voices will be raised in support of hospice palliative care, says organizer Jill Davies. In this international event coordinated by Voices for Hospice, a U.K. charity, groups and organizations will gather at venues “throughout the world to bring attention to the importance of hospice palliative care. In each site funds will also be raised for the cause. The Annapolis Valley will join other sites from Albania to Zimbabwe in raising funds for hospice.”
Hosted by Judith Gates, the evening will feature the poetry and music of t@b (Ariana Nasr and Andy Flinn); The 3 Mezzos (Paula Rockwell, Claire Mallin and Christianne Rushton); The Burton Trio (Caroline and Thomas Burton and Rachel Lutes); Sophie Bérubé; Emma and Tess Etienne; Mary Ganong; and Paul Lauzon.
The performers’ ages span eight decades and there will be something in this evening to appeal to everyone, Davies says.
Tickets for the event can be purchased for $20 at the Box of Delights Book Shop in Wolfville or by calling 690-2123.

Country music singer Kevin Davison of New Minas is hopeful local fans will help him out with his chances on Country Music Television.

Kevin says the results will be revealed live on CMT Oct. 17 at 11 p.m. He adds, “just go to my website (kevindavison.ca) and you’ll see the link to click that will let you vote for me.” The votes will only count, of course, after Oct. 11.

It screens at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. For further information, see

Bob Snider in concert
The St. Mary's Concert Series committee has arranged for folksinger Bob Snider to give a concert Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the church in Auburn.
Gaspereau Press has just published a second Bob Snider book. This time the popular singer/songwriter looks at getting up on stage. He has a strong belief in the relationship between audience and performer - in the sense of trust, control and generosity that fosters unity among audience members - and the importance of genuine connection between audience and performer.
Snider says, “I’ve always wanted to get my two cents in about performing. There are as many ways to write a song as there are people. But there’s only one way to perform, and this (book), I believe, is it.”
Snider is one of Canada’s most celebrated performers. Born and raised in Toronto, he has spent several years as a resident of the Bear River area. To-date, he has released seven albums, most recently Stealin’ Home (2002) and A Maze in Greys (2007).
Snider tours widely and has appeared at shows and festivals across North America. He will also be in Kentville Oct. 19–20 for the annual Gaspereau Press Wayzgoose.
