September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued KEAY, Madelyn Avery Dexter—91, of Summerville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Liverpool she was the daughter of the late Guy Clayton and Wayve Agatha (Smith) Dexter. Madelyn was predeceased by her husband, James Harold "Ted". She worked as a Dental Assistant with Dr. Bill Murphy for 20 years. Madelyn was very well respected for her musical abilities and was Organist for fifty-five years at Zion United Church where, after retiring, she was named Organist Emeritus. She was very involved in her community having been a founding member of The "Winds of Change Theatre" Group; was a lifetime member of the Astor Theatre; a member of Kiwanis and was an Honorary Kinette. She is survived by sister-in-law, Margurite Keay; niece Judith Keay (Rev. Canon Neville Cheeseman), Loretta Keay (the late Phillip); cousins Miriam MacLeod MacIntosh, Terry Ward Dorey, Sylvia Ward Langille, Richard Ward and Karen McNeil. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool. A celebration of Madelyn's life was held Saturday, September 29, 2007 in Zion United Church, Liverpool, Rev. Joanne McFadden officiated. Interment in Zion United Church Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool. September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued Maurice Daniel Huntley - 94, Medford, passed away Wednesday September 26, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Whitfield and Mary (Daniel) Huntley. Maurice will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. He farmed for most of his life in Medford. In his earlier years, Maurice worked as a woodsman in the winter. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. Maurice is survived by son, Glendon, Medford; daughter, Miriam, Medford; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Maurice was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Marion; his brothers, Cecil, Andrew and George; sisters, Elsie and Bertha; grandson, Scott in infancy. Visitation for Mr. Huntley was held from 7-9 pm on Thursday September 27 in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151) where a funeral was held at 3:00 pm Friday September 28 with Rev. Robert Billings officiating. September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued HEWER, Arlene Pearl “Samantha”, age 75, of Marion Bridge, Cape Breton, formerly of Pembroke, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at the Windsor Elms. Born on September 23, 1932, in Pembrooke, Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Violet (McLellan) Wheaton. Surviving are her husband, Leonard “Len”; son, Gordon (Tammy Harris), Surrey, B.C.; daughter, Jennifer (Stel) Gavriel, Kamloops, B.C.; grandchildren, Alisa, Jeffrey, Stephanie and George; brothers, Ronald (Betty), Pembroke; James (Margaret), Walton; Garry “Sonny”, Kempt Shore; sisters, Louise Laffin, Walton; Ruby Bennet (John Roth), Greenfield; Janet Hill, Walton; Glenda MacDonald, Mosherville; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Annette “Nettie”; sister, Grace Green. Cremation has taken place, under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There was no visitation by request. Services and burial will be held at a later date. September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued TAYLOR, Margaret Cleland - 91, of Yarmouth, died September 24, 2007, in Villa St. Joseph Du Lac, Dayton. Born January 3, 1916, in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late Violet (Cleland) and Frank Burrell. She moved from Dartmouth with her parents at an early age to reside in Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co. She attended grade school in Brooklyn and spent four years at Yarmouth County Academy, graduating in 1933. She then attended Yarmouth Business College. In 1937, she was employed as a stenographer in the law firm of R.S. McKay, K.C. In October 1938, she joined the staff of the department of Public Health and became Secretary to the Director of the Western Health Unit, serving 35 years and retiring in 1973. In Dartmouth, in 1946, she was married to Charles Henry Taylor of Cwmtillery, South Wales (Great Britain) and they took up residence in Yarmouth. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; an infant brother and her parents. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Government Retired Employees Association, A past Matron of Keystone Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star in Yarmouth, and a life member of Yarmouth County Historical Society. Visitation was held Thursday, September 27, from 12-2 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 1:30 p.m. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, Rev. Robert Baker officiated. Burial took place in Brooklyn Cemetery. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice. September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued Henry Charles Streeter – 80, formerly of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Henry and Sarah Elizabeth (Baker) Streeter. Henry had been employed in the Halifax Dockyards, where he gained his shipwright journeyman’s papers and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy under the Petty Officer Apprenticeship program in 1950. He retired in 1973 with an honourable discharge as Chief Petty Officer – Second Class, Hull Technician. Since his retirement from the navy, he worked in the contracting business from retail building supplies to owning his own contracting business, from where he retired in 1989. He had been a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Halifax, a member of the Royal Standard Lodge, No. 398, Halifax and Poyntz Masonic Lodge, No. 44, Hantsport. He is survived by his wife, the former Elsie Deal; two sons, Henry (Ada Jean), White Rock, Kings County; Bruce (Sarah), Coldbrook; six sisters, Carol (Robert) Streeter, Ottawa; Helen Shires, Halifax; Florence Knickle and Vivian (Ronald) Lewis, both of Dartmouth, Barbara Legge and Dorothy (Robert) Lee, both of Newfoundland; two brothers, Reginald (Gloria), Halifax and George (Alexa), Red Deer, Alberta; sister-in-law, Ada Berry, London, Ontario; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Gail McSweeney; a brother, Roy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation, by family request. September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued Anna “Doreen” (Neil) Egerdeen – 78, of Evergreen Home for Special care, Kentville, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the home. Born in Exeter, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late John and Kathleen (Pfaff) Neil. Together with her husband, they operated many restaurants, campgrounds and small businesses. Doreen touched many lives but nothing will compare to all the love and care she received while being a resident of Evergreen Home for Special Care. The staff members at Evergreen are to be commended on their compassion and commitment. Doreen loved dogs with a passion and enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. She was always willing to lend an ear to anyone and in her own way, would offer her own piece of advice, whether you wanted it or not. In her earlier years, she resided in Kitchener-Waterloo and later moved to Kamloops, British Columbia, where she resided for over 40 years and made her career. Among her accomplishments in business, she was instrumental in the opening of Pierre’s Lake Resort, Salmon Arm, British Columbia. She is survived by a daughter, Christine (her husband, Ted) Follett, Kentville. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Wilfred Glenn; a son, Darcy Paul; a brother, Ronald Neil. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, and there was no visitation or funeral service, by family request. September 23, 2007 to September 29, 2007 continued Loomer, Allan Everette "Al" , age 62, of Curry's Corner, Windsor passed away Thursday, September 26, 2007 at Hants Community Hospital after fighting cancer for three years. His wife and family were at his side. Born in Berwick, he was the son of Olive (Arnold) Ogilvie of Burlington, Kings County and the late Howard C. Loomer . His education started in a one room school in Victoria Harbour, Kings County and after graduation from West Kings District Highschool, Auburn he was employed with the Royal Bank for 37 years. He became a "Fellow of the Institute of the Canadian Bankers" and held several management positions as well as serving in Atlantic Province Headquarters. He retired as manager at the Windsor Branch in 2001. Throughout his business career and after Al was always involved in the communities in which he lived, by way of service clubs and other organizations. Those included membership & office in Lions, Rotary, Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce and Gyro Club. He was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed his wood lot, gardening, fishing, golfing, curling and snow mobiling. Being a member of the clubs associated with these activities in Windsor. Besides his mother Olive (Arnold) Ogilvie, he is survived by: Loving wife, Margaret (Nauss) Loomer, Curry's Corner; Son, Jeffrey Loomer, Dartmouth; Daughter, Angela (Donald) Alexander, Quispamsis, New Brunswick; Grandsons, Howard K. Loomer & Mitchell Alexander; Brother, Phillip Loomer (Sandra Heft), Waverley; Nephew, Damon Loomer (Neavis) & their 3 sons, Waverly. Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2007 and Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2007 in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Rev. James Haughn officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
