Shanneyganock Newfoundland music at it's best
Award-winning group at King's Theatre October 5
If you enjoy the spirit of the Irish tradition and how it has been preserved on the Southern Shores and Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland, you won't want to miss an intimate show of music, lore, and legend at King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal October 5 at 8 p.m.
Shanneyganock is a well awarded Newfoundland folk act, that continues to delight festival crowds near and far. Audiences have been charmed by their stirring ballads, powerful shanties, and rib-rattling jigs and reels
Fling Out The Flag is their newest album of patriotic Newfoundland songs balanced with contemporary calls to our lost young people. Some songs are a deliberate nod to the band's past, while others a bold step into new musical territory. Fling Out The Flag is produced by Bob Hallett of Great Big Sea.
Shanneyganock is a lively and traditional Newfoundland band. They are a danceable celtic rock band with barrel-chested vocals from Chris Andrews and high-powered two-row button accordion with Newfoundland flavour from Mark Hiscock. In the past two years the band has toured Alberta over eight times as well as sojourns to British Columbia, Ontario, and all the Maritime provinces. In 2004, they won Newfoundland's 'Entertainer of the Year' and 'Folk/Roots Artists of the Year' awards.
The band's sound is heavily influenced by traditional Irish and Celtic music, and their rich vocals do justice to many a Newfoundland folk song. Audiences are charmed by their stirring ballads, powerful shanties, rib-rattling jigs and reels.
Tickets: $12 advance; $14 at the door; $10 for members; and $5 for youth. Tickets are on sale at King’s Theatre box office. Visit the theatre or call 532-7704
