RCMP seek assistance in Middleton assault case

The police are asking for the public’s assistance concerning an assault that took place in eastern Middleton on September 22 at 10:35 p.m.

A male and two females were walking through town. The male threw a rock at a passing car and broke the rear window. When the driver came back, the male assaulted him. Anyone with information about this event is asked to contact the police.

The RCMP responded to a total of 142 calls for assistance from September 21 until October 1. Among these calls were: seven false alarms; five domestic matters; four false 911s and six motor vehicle accidents. Following are highlights of these calls:

-- September 21 at 12:55 p.m. Police were called to a single vehicle accident in Clementsvale. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

-- September 21 at 2:44 p.m. A Middleton caller reported that cattle were loose and on the road. The owner of the cows was identified and contacted. The cows were retrieved.

-- September 21 5:08 p.m. Police were called to Middleton after a caller reported that a driver was doing donuts in Rotary Raceway Park. The driver’s father was contacted and the matter was dealt with.

-- September 22 at 00:56 a.m. A Meadowvale caller reported that youth were running around a neighbouring property and screaming.

-- September 22 at 9:04 a.m. Police were called to a Middleton business to investigate a possible break and enter. The caller discovered an open door and marks that suggested that someone had pried the door to gain entry. A patrol was made and the business owner was contacted. The owner confirmed that the pry marks were old and entrance had not been made.

-- September 22 at 5:05 p.m. Police were called to Granville Ferry to help locate a missing senior. Police attended and the search dog was on route when the senior was located.

-- September 22 at 10:19 p.m. A caller reported that another driver had failed to stop at a stop sign in Brickton and nearly hit another car. Police attended and located the driver. The driver was arrested and various charges are pending.

-- September 23 at 8 a.m. Police received a report that during the night, youth were smashing glass and throwing garbage around in Lawrencetown.

-- September 23 at 4:57 p.m. Police were called to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 101 near Shaw Road. The female driver was found with open liquor, and was transported to hospital by EHS staff. A blood sample was taken and charges are pending based on the results of the test.

-- September 23 at 5:30 p.m. A Brickton caller reported a break and enter had taken place sometime during the past three weeks, at a recreational property. The cottage and outbuildings had been broken into and a quantity of copper was stolen.

-- September 23 at 7:26 p.m. Police received a report of a stolen mailbox.

-- September 23 at 10:38 p.m. Police were called to a single vehicle accident after a driver went off the road in Upper Clements. No injuries were reported.

-- September 24 at 8:01 a.m. A Deep Brook caller reported that the back window of a vehicle had been smashed.

-- September 24 at 8:45 a.m. Police were called to a Lawrencetown business to investigate a break and enter.

A small amount of money was stolen.

-- September 24 at 2:30 p.m. A Meadowvale caller reported an ongoing problem with dangerous drivers while children are waiting for the school bus.

-- September 25 at 8:15 a.m. A Hillsburn property owner reported a break and enter into a cottage. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

-- September 25 at 3:53 p.m. Police were called to Upper Clements to investigate a break and enter into a cottage and outbuildings.

-- September 25 at 4:24 p.m. A Bridgetown business reported receiving several fraudulent cheques. The offender later called police and confessed. Charges are pending.

-- September 25 at 8:46 p.m. A Middleton caller reported an attempted break and enter. A person tried to gain entry into a residence, but fled the scene when a neighbour came to investigate.

-- September 26 at 8:50 a.m. Police received a report that youth were smoking marijuana near the schoolbus garage. A patrol was made and four individuals were arrested. One adult and one youth were charged; the other two individuals were released without charges.

-- September 26 at 5:13 p.m. Police were called to Cornwallis to investigate a complaint of property damage. A suspect was arrested and charges are pending.

-- September 26 at 11:03 a.m. Police were called to a motor vehicle accident in Meadowvale after a car hit a tree. Three people sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

-- September 27 at 3:22 p.m. A Bridgetown caller reported a break and enter into an apartment. A playstation and games were taken.

-- September 28 at 5:06 a.m. Police were called to a single vehicle accident in Lequille. The vehicle rolled and driver was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries.

-- September 28 at 11:04 a.m. Two hundred vehicles were checked at an RCMP checkpoint in western Annapolis. Approximately eight tickets were written for offenses ranging from driving without a seatbelt to driving without adequate documentation.

-- September 28 at 11 a.m. Following a tip, one person was detained in Bridgetown and charged with possession of marijuana.

-- September 28 at 2 p.m. Police were called to Bloomington to a house fire. The male occupant was able to escape and get help, and was transported to hospital for treatment. The case is being investigated by the fire marshal and RCMP.

-- September 28 at 4:55 p.m. Police were called to an accident on the Highway 101 near Bridgetown. A vehicle hydroplaned and hit a guardrail. No injuries were reported.

-- September 28 at 4:55 p.m. Police received a report that a white mini van was driving erratically along the 101 near Middleton. The driver was located and not found to be impaired.
