September 16, 2007 to September 22, 2007 continued Gerald Frederick Ward – 84, of Centreville, Kings County, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Minas, he was a son of the late Clarence and Charlotte “Lottie” (Reid) Ward. He had been employed as a contractor and took great pride in maintaining his home and his property, especially the gardening. He enjoyed camping with various groups, playing cards, attending card parties and bowling. He is survived by his wife, the former Marguerite Whitehead; a daughter, Norma (Robert “Bob”) Malott, Kentville; a son, Robert “Bob” (Fran), Alberta; a step-son, Garnet Whitehead, Toronto; a brother, Donald (Ruby), New Minas; three grandchildren, Alanna, Scott and Kirk; three great grandchildren, Matthew, Alicia and Sara; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Pearl Bishop; two sisters, Kerry Downey and Dorothy “Dot” Schwartz; a brother, Gordon. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2007, Reverend Robert Billings officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital – Carey Me, the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses, or the charity of your choice. September 16, 2007 to September 22, 2007 continued Ivan Reginald Smith – 64, of Aldershot, Kings County, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at home. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Reginald and Bernice (Benjamin) Smith. He had been employed with Hostess Foods, ACA Co-op, and for many years with Great Valley Juices. He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed hockey, ball, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his common-law wife, Mary (Stevens) Milbury; a daughter, Michelle Smith, Falmouth; two sons, Terry (Joyce), Cambridge; Darryl, Stellarton; a sister, Evelyn “Sheila” (Paul) Lloyd, Geary, New Brunswick; four grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Jonah and Hannah; four step-children, Melvin (Doris) Pinch, New Minas; David (Kathy) Pinch, St. Catharines, Ontario; Marilyn (George) Misner, Aldershot; Darlene (Tim) Lindsay, Strathmore, Alberta; 10 step-grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Tyrone, Mitchell, Gregory, Rachelle, Johnathan, Michael, Brandon and Jasmine. He was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas and Kenneth. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ray Fisher officiated. September 16, 2007 to September 22, 2007 continued TOWNSEND, Ruby Pearl, 85, Surf Lodge Nursing Home, formerly of Osborne Harbour, passed away peacefully in Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport, Tuesday, September 18, 2007. She was the wife of the late Alonzo Atwood Townsend. Born in Mahone Bay, she was a daughter of the late William and Charlotte (Vincent) Langille. Ruby was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her flower garden and was an avid reader. She was a great visitor to the Nursing Home. Ruby was a faithful adherent of the First Ragged Island Baptist Church. She is survived by sons, Carman (Carolyn), Kingston; Tom (Linda) Doaktown, N.B; daughter, Kathleen (Wayne) Williams, Osborne Harbour; grandchildren, Andrew, Kevin, Tanya, Patricia, John, Heidi and Adam as well as 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Herman) Blades, Lockeport. She was predeceased by sisters, Edith, Harriet, Dorothy, Margenie and Marion; brother, William. Funeral service was held on Friday, September 21, 2007 in First Ragged Island Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Hammond officiating. Interment was in Osborne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Ragged Island Baptist Church, IWK Hospital for Children or a charity of choice. September 16, 2007 to September 22, 2007 continued Zaluski, Ruth Mae (nee Winship) - Passed away peacefully at Mississauga Specialty Care on Friday, September 21, 2007, at the age of 85. Ruth and her late beloved husband Ben were long time residents of Etobicoke and members of Richview United Church. She was the loving mother of Peter and his wife Susan, and David and his wife Carolyn; much loved grandmother of Justin, Kristin, Jason and Lara; dear sister of Pauline and brothers Charles, and the late Arthur. Visitation was at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held in the chapel on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 3 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Well-known Yarmouth businessman and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Friday, September 21, 2007, after a year- long battle with cancer. Born in West Pubnico, he was a son of the late Mandée and Modeste d'Entremont. He is survived by his loving wife, R. Irene; sons, Wayne (Julie), Dartmouth; Gary (Cindy), Yarmouth, and grandchildren, Heather, Tanya and Dylan. Also surviving are sisters, Alvina d'Entremont, West Pubnico; Rita Amirault, Brantford, Ont.; Soeur Delphine d'Entremont, Moncton; Margaret (Sheldon) d'Entremont, West Pubnico, and Doris (Gordon) Kenny, Moncton. He was predeceased by brothers, Clifford, Jean, Augustin, Gerard, and sisters, Adelina and Mary-Alice. Ted began his almost 50 year career in electronics in 1958 when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he served as a radar technician. In 1966 he joined Computing Devices of Canada and by 1970 he bought Wesmar Electronics Canada Ltd., which he operated until his retirement in 2006. In 1980, Ted and Irene extended their involvement in marine electronics, founding MIT Electronics Inc. As chief designer, Ted designed, developed and manufactured innovative marine electronic safety and navigational systems for both the commercial sailing industry as well as for pleasure craft. Ted was known throughout Canada and the United States by those in the marine industry. Ted also partnered with his wife, Irene, in the formation of other local businesses, among them - Woman's Up-To-Date Shop Inc. and ITG Information Management Inc. The family requests that donations in Ted's name be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of West Pubnico Funeral Service, where visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 23 and Monday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Funeral service took place Monday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, West Pubnico. Doris is the widow of Blake Robbins of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Laura and Adolphus Churchill of Plymouth, Nova Scotia. She is survived by her brother Ralph and sister-in-law Mabel, also of Plymouth, Nova Scotia, and step-daughter Eleanor Robbins of Toronto. Cremation has taken place. Peter Demmons, husband of Paulette Demmons (nee Frail). Father of Tim Demmons (wife Kelly), Westmeath and Michael Demmons (wife Emilie), Verona. Grandfather of Myles & Katie. Predeceased by his parents Niel & Alton Demmons. Brother of George Demmons and Carl Demmons (wife Sue). Survived by his nieces Tracy, Jill & Jessica and nephew Mark. Son-in-law of Daisy Frail and brother-in-law of Julie Frail and Dawn Frail (husband Tim) all of Nova Scotia. Funeral Service was held Sept. 22, 2007 in Calvin United Church followed by interment in St. Paul The Hermit Cemetery, Sheenboro, Quebec. Reception in the Sheenboro Parish Hall.
