Located in the heart of Nova Scotia at the eastern gate to the famous Annapolis Valley, Windsor features the benefits of rural living as well as convenient proximity to Metropolitan Halifax.
These are the opening lines from Super 8 Motel’s website devoted solely to their brand-new Windsor location. Those who live in Hants County understand that being a gateway community to Metro is just one of benefits locally. Still, most will agree this business was a long-time coming.
Despite the reasons for bringing Super 8 to Windsor, Ian Hurst, Senior VP of Operations for Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. – one of Canada’s leading hotel management companies – says it was a “gut feeling” that led them eventually to Windsor.
“With most areas you do a major study and have the empirical data to back up development,” Hurst said prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, Sept. 19. “We didn’t have that in Windsor, but what we did have was community spirit and leadership that’s pushing it to move forward.” He said Windsor was an “exciting little community with high hopes.”
Those hopes seem to be generating interest in the new arrival, at least so far. Hurst says that prior to opening they had booked 3-4 times the business they normally would have, even in more urban areas. Excitement about the area and the number of quality events that are organized routinely have drawn in nearly $80,000 worth of pre-reservations, both for leisure stays and business functions.
The hilltop Super 8 Motel in Windsor was followed closely by a celebration to officially launch the Super 8 Hotel in Dartmouth Thursday, September 20. With these official openings, there are now four Super 8 Motels in Nova Scotia managed by Halifax-based Pacrim Hospitality. Both of the new locations are 100 per cent smoke-free.
Staff and management of the Super 8 Motel here believe it’s crucial that the community take part in the success of the business. As much as 80 per cent of their business comes from word-of-mouth referrals, so it’s important to get the word out that this is the right place to be.
Giant indoor pool, hot tub, fitness facilities
Windsor Mayor Anna Allen says it’s great that people coming to Windsor for major events will no longer have to find accommodations in neighbouring communities such as New Minas and Sackville.
“I’m so very thrilled with this amazing facility,” Allen said. “I can promise them we’ll do everything we can to promote their business and welcome them to the community.
Among the amenities available to Super 8’s clientele, the Windsor location offers a giant indoor pool with an eight-foot waterslide; hot tub and fitness room; free high-speed Internet; guest laundry service; free local calls and parking; and they allow pets. Also, children 17-and-under stay for free when a parent or guardian stays in the same room.
Windsor’s business travelers will appreciate the proximity to the Windsor-West Hants Industrial Park, downtown Windsor and the Fort Edward Mall. The location is also just a short drive to Acadia University in Wolfville, New Minas and Kentville, and offers four meetings rooms equipped with the technology to provide a convenient and professional atmosphere.
The Super 8 Motel in Windsor has 66 rooms and 2,700 square feet of new meeting space. For more information, visit
