The Town of Wolfville and the Municipality of the County of Kings have presented Angela Wilson, a student at Acadia University, with a unique Municipal Studies Scholarship valued at $1,000.

The Montreal native attended the Wolfville Committee of Council meeting Sept. 4 to give a short presentation on her interest and academic involvement. She will also be present at the September Committee of the Whole meeting to be held in the Kings County Council Chambers today.

Wilson showed councillors a wind chime that marks the six years during which she spent periods of time helping with home rehabilitation through a church in New Jersey. She spent each stint working also in West Virginia.

Wilson said there are some who might easily dismiss West Virginians as hillbillies, but working with residents of the state provoked new interests for her. She said they include a focus on healthy communities, local government and its role in community development.

The fourth-year political science student says our environment is not dissimilar to West Virginia. Councillor Rosemary Segado praised Wilson and told her, “government is the people.”

The town and county jointly funded what will be an annual scholarship aimed at attracting and supporting women who have demonstrated an interest in the field of municipal government.
