Ray Burgoyne - passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 4, 2007, at his home in Aaldersville, near New Ross, where he was born on January 25, 1921. He was a son of the late Edgar Norwood and Florence (Hiltz) Burgoyne. Surviving are a son, Terrence, Toronto, Ont.; daughters, Dawn, Aaldersville; Heather, Canberra, Australia; grandchildren, Dylan, Emily & Molly; sisters, Eva (Aldon) Durling; Helen (Floyd) Smith; Edith (the late Alvin) Russell; Mary Walsh. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Cynthia in 1987; brother, Clifton (Evelyn). Ray was a life member & past master of Norwood Lodge # 135, A.F. & A.M., New Ross and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 79, New Ross. He was a retired farmer and employee of the New Ross Consolidated School for 26 years. There was a Masonic Service followed by visitation Friday night and Funeral Service 10 a.m. Saturday September 8, all in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville, N.S., B4N 2K5, (902-678-2151). Rev. Leonard Bednar officiated. Burial was in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued Vincent Aubrey Schofield Jr. – 70, of Black River, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Black River, he was a son of the late Vincent and Minnie (Tracey) Schofield. He had been a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1997. Junior enjoyed softball and he played outfield for White Rock when they won the Valley Intermediate “D” championship in 1967 and the Maritime Intermediate “D” championship in 1968. He was a member of the White Rock Community Centre and was one of many involved in the construction of the centre in the 1980’s. He was also a member of the Black River Community Club. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, darts and cards. Junior was especially fond of his Christmas trees, his woodlot and his weekly card games at the shack with the boys. He is survived by his wife, the former Deanna Millett; three sons, Grayden (Darlene) Schofield, Black River; Shane (Brenda Mann) Schofield, Williams Lake, British Columbia; Phillip Brown, Kentville; a daughter, Tara Lee (Francis) McLearn, Black River; two brothers, Charles (Sylvia), Gaspereau Mountain; Wayne (Sandy), White Rock; three sisters, Osie Harris, White Rock; Bertha (Lovett) Harris, Greenfield; Pauline Murray, Gaspereau Mountain; nine grandchildren, RaeAnne, Kristin, Tyler, Jordan, Morgan and Raegan Schofield, Joshua and Joel McLearn, Alexander Wright and his father, Donald Wright; a great grandchild, Kory Schofield; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Holly; a grandchild, Keagan; two brothers, Blake and Rodney; two brothers-in-law, Adelbert Harris and Cyril Murray. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Mark Shaw officiated. Burial took place in the Black River Cemetery. Following the burial, the family greeted friends and relatives for a time of fellowship and refreshments at a reception held in the White Rock Community Centre. Family flowers only, by request. Born in Richfield, Digby Co., he was a son of Gertrude Jeffery and the late Frank Hamilton. Surviving are his wife, Sandra (Bethune) Hamilton; daughter, Asheley (Jason) Quinn; grandchildren, Austin and McKenzie, Saskatoon, Sask.; brother, Alton, Paulsboro, N.J.; sisters, Eunice (Howard) Mood, South Ohio; Gaile (Raymond) Randall, Kemptville; stepchildren and grandchildren, Michael, Trish and Madison Moses, Shad Bay; Marsha, Peter, Nicole and Nathan Greeno, Lorneville; Melanie, Jim, Jillian and Samantha Mosher, Gaetz Brook. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There was a memorial service held Friday at 2 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued LeBLANC, Stanley Joseph – 91, Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac, Dayton, and formerly of Lower Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2007, in the villa. Born June 19, 1916 in Lower Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Eloi and Monique Adele (Pothier) LeBlanc. Stanley was a retired lobster and tuna fisherman. He is survived by brothers, Ernest LeBlanc and Larry (Alice) LeBlanc, both of Lower Wedgeport; sisters, Blanche (Frank) Doucette and Geraldine (Michel) Boudreau, both of Lower Wedgeport. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Andrew LeBlanc and William “Billy” LeBlanc; sisters, Frances Cottreau and Zelma LeBlanc. Visitation took place from 7-9 Monday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 10 AM, Tuesday, September 11 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued PARKER, Wilbur Obadiah – 99 passed away peacefully at Tideview Terrace, Digby, N.S. on Sept. 2, 2007. Born in Bear River on March 7, 1908, he was the oldest son of Lulu (Rice) and Alfred Parker. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence (Peck) and his second wife, Jennie (Peck). He is survived by daughters Lois Dotson, Florida; Myrlah (Len) Lewis, California; Forestine (Tom) Doggett, Halifax; Miriam (George) Derksen, Alberta; Leona (Jud) Sibbins, Mount Uniacke; sons Basil (Dorothy), British Columbia; David (Beverley), Bear River; Paul (Debbie), New Hampshire, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Wilbur was also predeceased by brothers Frank, Carl and Malcolm, sister Frances Peck, son-in-law Ken Dotson and grandsons Peter Parker and Nathan Parker. At his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service of praise and thanksgiving will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Advent Christian Church, Bear River, N.S., at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow. September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued Thorburne, Nicholas Wayne “Nicki”—Liverpool, passed away September 6, 2007 at his home, the result of a tragic accident. Born in Liverpool, September 25, 1995, Nicki was the youngest child in a unique family of 11 children, and is survived by his parents Roy and Sharon (Trimm) Saulnier. Nicki was a grade seven student at South Queens Junior High. He was an avid soccer player, playing on the Queens County Soccer Team. He had boundless energy and loved to swim, kayak, snowboard, pound nails or ride bike with brother, Brandon. His big smile and that twinkle in his eye will not be forgotten. Surviving besides his parents are brothers: Scott (Kim), Liverpool, Darcy and Bobby (Sherry), Okotoks, Alta, Travis (Shannon) Milton, Brian, Bridgewater, Alex, James and Brandon, at home; sisters Chelsea at home, Shelly (Nick) Whynot, Liverpool, Sharon (Cody), Langdon, Alta. Biological sisters, Jessica and Candace Neals, Liverpool; brother Nathan and parents Richard and Patricia (Wells) Thorburne. Also many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins near and far. Cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A service commemorating his life was held on Monday, September 10, 2007 in Milton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Rev. Jennifer Garbin officiated. September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued SMALLFIELD, nee Philpott, Lorna (Ma Jones) - Peacefully at Peel Memorial, Pallative Care, Brampton, ON with her beloved sons and family at her side, on September 7, 2007. Lorna’s life has ceased, allowing her at last to go gently into the dark night. Mother of James Jeffrey Jones “Bones” and Marty Ross Jones of Bramalea, sister to Anna Brown (Al, deceased) of Hamilton, ON, and Dawn Lee (Ken Gurschick) of Hermion, ME, predeceased by brother Bill Lamb of Kingston, NS, and parents Ralph and Hilda Philpott. Lorna left her beloved Nova Scotia as a young woman seeking fame and fortune in Ontario, where she married Cliff Jones, father of her “Boys”, and later Dick Smallfield. For many years, she worked at Huntington Laboratories and at the claims department at Voyageur Travel. Politics, travel, and the finer things in life were her passions. Her file of letters to governing bodies spans her lifetime. Nascar racing was her passion and Tony Stewart her favourite driver. Mom is finally climbing the fence towards the skies, with Tony, after winning the race. Lorna will be returned to Cape Breton, NS to rest peacefully forever. In memory of Mom, donations to the Ontario SPCA would be appreciated. A “Celebration of Lorna’s Life” will be held at a later date.
September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued RAWDING, Wayne Douglas – 54 of Greenwood, NS, passed away Friday, September 7, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the former Betty J. (Comeau), Greenwood and the late Douglas B. Rawding. Wayne had been employed with Michelin in Bridgewater and Waterville. He enjoyed attending vintage car shows and drag races as well as camping and outdoor activities. Surviving besides his mother Betty, are a daughter Angela (Brian) Stevens, Meadowvale, NS; son Christopher (Zoe), Margaretsville; sister, Judy (Tom) Pilgrim, Yellowknife, NWT; grandson, Jesse and granddaughter, Esmae and niece, Tanya. Cremation has taken place. †A memorial service was held Tuesday, September 11, 2007 in the Nictaux Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod officiated. Interment will be in the Nictaux Cemetery. September 2, 2007 to September 8, 2007 continued Doreen Iona (Nee West, formerly, Banks) Lomas – September 26, 1932 – September 5, 2007. Doreen was born in Halifax and was a long-time resident of Chilliwack, British Columbia. On September 5, 2007, Doreen passed away after a sudden, short illness at CGH. Doreen “Denie” will be remembered and loved by her husband, Austin “Sparky” and son, Chris; sister, Ann Tyler; loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. Doreen was predeceased by father, George Albert West; his wife, Daisy Amelia West (nee Marriner); her first husband, Lewis Eugene Banks; brother, Gerald Albert West; his wife, Juanita West-Chury; sister, Shirley Amelia Coleman (nee West); her husband, Bernard Burton Coleman. The interment took place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2007 in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County, where all were invited to share and celebrate the life of Doreen Lomas.
