Culinary adventurer Bob Blumer, who stars as the Surreal Gourmet on the Food Network, has an upcoming challenge in Windsor.
Blumer’s show Glutton for Punishment is now filming its second season and one of his challenges will be to carve out a giant pumpkin and paddle it across Lake Pisaquid at the annual Pumpkin Regatta Oct. 14.
Currently, Blumer’s website features a giant Nova Scotia pumpkin, growing live via webcam as it gains up to 30 pounds a day. The webcam is set up at the Dill family farm in the world’s pumpkin capital.
Blumer is a recognizable television personality, best known as the creator and host of the Food Network series Surreal Gourmet, one of the most innovative and entertaining cooking shows on television. The award-winning show - two-time winner of the Gemini Award as Best Information Program - ran for five seasons and is still seen in over 30 countries.
He’s also the author of four acclaimed cookbooks. As a chef, Blumer transforms common ingredients into inspired dishes through whimsical presentations and unusual cooking methods that have become his culinary trademark. This artful approach to cooking, along with his instructions and contagious enthusiasm, have given him a loyal following.
As the host of Glutton for Punishment, Blumer channels his love of food and his natural competitiveness into a series of culinary adventures that are bound to be entertaining. A transplanted Canadian, he currently lives in the Hollywood Hills in the shadows of the Hollywood sign.
When not traveling for work or pleasure (which is most of the time), he cycles daily in the canyons near his home, doing his best to stay in shape for his next big adventure. His adventures have included becoming a coffee barista, shucking oysters and bartending. For more, go to:
