Digby murder suspects in court, in cuffs
Trio also charged with conspiracy and robbery with violence

The court has remanded three Annapolis County residents on murder, conspiracy and robbery with violence charges stemming from an incident in Plympton, Digby County, Sept. 1.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at Sissiboo road home of 55-year-old Wayne Doucette 11:55 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1. They found Doucette deceased at the scene. The homicide investigation continues.

Charged with first-degree murder, robbery with violence and conspiracy to commit robbery are Cornwallis Park residents Aaron Scott Trask, 34, and Jonathan David Trask, 22, and a 17-year-old girl from Deep Brook.

All three arrived in Kentville provincial court in handcuffs Wednesday morning, Sept. Sept. 5. Brought in separately, each remained in cuffs during their brief arraignments.

The slightly-built Jonathan Trask was stoic as he was escorted into the courtroom as was the bespectacled Aaron. The girl – who looked like any other young person that age -- was teary at first.

Judge Claudine MacDonald remanded the trio as required and ordered them to attend Digby provincial court Sept. 17 to set the date for a public hearing on the charges.

Digby Crown prosecutor Rosalind Michie told the court she would be seeking an adult sentence for the girl.

MacDonald told the young accused that she could be tried and sentenced as an adult, depending on arguments pertaining to the Youth Act.

Until then, however, the accused cannot be identified, under provisions of the Act.

Outside the courtroom, Michie said that the investigation continues, with other witnesses being interviewed.

Dwight Kent, a friend of the deceased and his family said that Doucette’s mother is “hurting. It’s cruel. It’s something you’d read about in New York.

Kent noted that “it’s taken everybody by surprise. It doesn’t make sense.” As why anyone would kill Doucette, Kent said, “we don’t know of any enemies… he didn’t have a whole lot of money.”

Kent didn’t know the three individuals who appeared in court that morning.

A woman who didn’t wish to be identified said that Doucette was a good friend to people. If someone had asked for money he would have said “take it.”

Of those responsible for the murder, she said “I hope they get what they deserve.”

At least one other person faces a robbery charge from the incident.
