Islands and District department holding flea market

The annual Islands and District Fire Department's flea market is ready to go, after a short delay as a result of the fire that badly damaged some of their equipment and the fire hall. This year's event takes place at the fire hall at Surette's Island on Sunday, Sept. 9, beginning at 1 p.m. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The switch box does not meet the flame test requirements of the applicable standard and does not comply with the Canadian Electrical Code. The boxes were imported from China.

1891 HOSE REEL

Steamers described in the last three columns also needed other equipment to respond to fires.

The 1891 Burrill Johnson horse drawn hose reel was built in Yarmouth (Water Street) for the Yarmouth department. It was unusual in that it had two hose reels instead of the customary one and was able to carry 1000 feet of hose. This reel can be seen on the first floor of the Firefighters’ Museum.

DATE IN HISTORY
