The annual Islands and District Fire Department's flea market is ready to go, after a short delay as a result of the fire that badly damaged some of their equipment and the fire hall. This year's event takes place at the fire hall at Surette's Island on Sunday, Sept. 9, beginning at 1 p.m. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

NEPTUNE VET IN FOR SURGERY
Yarmouth veteran firefighter Brian "Biff" Robbins underwent heart surgery in Halifax last Tuesday, Aug. 28. First reports were of a very positive nature. We hope to see him home very quickly and returning to good health.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Neptune veterans highlight the corner this week as Neptune Vet Charlie Robbins celebrates his 83rd birthday on Saturday, Sept. 8.
CORRECTION
In last week's column I mentioned that Chief Ken Kelly would be in Ottawa to take part in the Fallen Firefighter's memorial Service. Not so . This will take place on Sunday, Sept. 9 and Chief Kelly will be in attendance.
BOWLING

PRODUCT RECALL
Plastic hardwire switch boxes - CSA International and Liteline Corporation of Brampton, Ontario are announcing a safety alert regarding plastic hardwire switch box Cat. No. FBT6300-WH. The switch box poses a potential fire hazard and bears counterfeit registered trade marks belonging to CSA International.
The switch box is white plastic, measures 10cmX5cmX3cm. It has a small toggle switch on the surface and a short white cord connector. The switch box does not meet the flame test requirements of the applicable standard and does not comply with the Canadian Electrical Code. The boxes were imported from China.

Steamers described in the last three columns also needed other equipment to respond to fires.
The 1891 Burrill Johnson horse drawn hose reel was built in Yarmouth (Water Street) for the Yarmouth department. It was unusual in that it had two hose reels instead of the customary one and was able to carry 1000 feet of hose. This reel can be seen on the first floor of the Firefighters’ Museum.
DATE IN HISTORY
Sept. 8, 1980 - A 6:09 p.m. fire of a barn and a portion of the house kept YFD busy until 9 a.m. There were no injuries but one pony died as a result of the fire.
