Ariminta Katherine “Minty” Jordan – 86, of Kentville, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on the family farm in Curry’s Corner, Hants County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Robie and Lucy (Puddington) Mearns. Minty trained as a Registered Nurse at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax and she commenced her career with the Victorian Order of Nurses and later retired from the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. She was a devoted mother, a dedicated nurse and a loyal friend. She enjoyed life’s journeys. She was vibrant, outgoing with a wonderful sense of humour. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her daughter, Nancy (Benjamin Wentzell) Jordan, Unionville, Ontario; a son, David, Edmonton, Alberta. She was the proud grandmother of Matthew Wentzell, Banff, Alberta and a loving aunt to her nieces and late nephew, Gary Jordan. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie Leland Jordan; two sisters, Florence Cumming and Madeline Saunders; two brothers, Donald and Bill Mearns. Visitation was held from 3:30-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2007, Pastor Devin Johnstone and Reverend Judith Gates officiated. A private family burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. deVILLER, Theresa Clara “Tessie” – 83, Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle, and formerly of Roco Point and Bell Neck, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2007, in the home. Born February 6, 1924 in Bell Neck, she was a daughter of the late John and Clara (McBride) Armstrong. Tessie was a school teacher, having taught at the Bell Neck school. She was a member of Saint Anne’s Parish, and had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin. Surviving are sons, Joseph Edward (Aline) deViller, Ottawa; Gary Gerard (Jeannine) deViller, Argyle Sound; Clyde Augustin (Renee) deViller, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Celleste, Alvin, Jeffrey, Jessica, Jacinthe, Luc, Jasmine and Jacques; sister, Kitty (Walter) Sweeney; sisters-in-law, Bernadette Armstrong, Theresa Armstrong and Yvonne Armstrong. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Walter deViller; brothers, Frederick, Lawrence, Paul, John “Jack”, Daniel and Ralph; sisters, Helen May, Cora Armstrong and Joan Frost. Visitation took place from 3-5 and 7-9 Tuesday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 22 from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Emery Brien and Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated. HOOD, E. CLAIRE, 92, of Lake George, Shelburne Co., N.S. died Friday, August 17, 2007 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point, Shelburne County, N.S. Born in Coldbrook, N.S. on February 17, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Effie (Meighn) Sanford. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She attended school in Kentville and after leaving High School she enrolled in Mack’s Business College, Kentville, where she received a secretarial course. After graduating from Business College, she was a substitute teacher in Prospect, N.S. On August 22, 1936, she married Robert Q. Hood of Shelburne, N.S. in the United Baptist Church, Cambridge Station, Kings Co. During the Second World War, while her husband was at sea, she remained in Coldbrook where she operated the farm of her parents who were at that time, Keeper and Matron of Kings Co. Municipal Poor Farm. After the war she helped her husband manage “Hood’s Snack Bar” Business in Coldbrook, N.S. When this business was sold in 1955, they moved to Shelburne where she ran a flower shop. Later Mr. Hood purchased the Sourquois Cabins situated on the road to Jordan Falls. It was here that she set up and operated a greenhouse business from which she sold flowers. While living in Shelburne she was a dedicated member of the Baptist Church as a volunteer and one of the soloists in the church choir. Later when she and her husband moved from Shelburne to the former homestead of George Swanburg at Lake George, they transferred their membership to the Jordan Falls Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Robert Q; son, Sanford “Sandy” (Jane), Lake George; granddaughter, Anna (Stephen) Hayden, Wetaskiwin, Alberta; great-grandsons, Zachary, Jacob and Mitchell. She was predeceased by her sister Hazel (Meighn) Durkee-Neily, Kitchener, Ont. Funeral service was held on Monday, August 20, 2007 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Davidson officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Jordan Falls United Baptist Church Building Fund or the Gideon’s International of Canada. LLEWELLYN, Gladys Isabelle, 86 - Halifax, passed away peacefully August 17, 2007 in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Moose Brook, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Hill) Crossman. She will be deeply missed by her son Paul; daughter-in-law Nancy (O’Connell); her granddaughters Heather Yaschuk (Todd) and Kim Leslie (Greg); her very special great-grandchildren Nathan and Bridget; sister Marian Walker, Barrie, ON; brother Rettie Crossman, Oromocto, NB and her many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur (1994), her sisters Etta Drake, Blanche Kerr, Pearl Reynolds and Beulah; by her brothers Robert, Walter, Joseph, Stanley, Harold, Percy and Harry and her grandson Jeffrey. She was a very loving “Nanny Gladys” and “Aunt Glad”. Gladys was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and gave freely of her time to many charitable organizations. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff of Unit 8.1, QEII Health Sciences Centre, for the kindness and care during Gladys’ time there. Kathleen “Kay” Brown - Peacefully at Woodstock General Hospital, Woodstock, Ontario on Friday, August 17, 2007, Kathleen “Kay” Brown (nee Burke) of Woodstock in her 71st year. Beloved wife of the late Harry Brown (1991). Dear mother of Brian Brown (Erin), Jack Brown (Dawn), Jim Brown (Elizabeth) and Vicki Brown (Tim), all of Ontario. Loving grandmother of Kirk, Jenni, Eric, Scott, Craig, Devon, Kurtis and Crystal. Dear sister of Marie Perry, Muriel Townsend, Rhoda Williams, Mildred Buchanan, all of Nova Scotia, and the late Nora Smith. Also sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. MUISE, Clifford James – 81, Cliff Street, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 16, 1926 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late John Frederick and Evangeline Marie (Muise) Muise. He was retired from Dominion Textiles, having worked there for forty years. Clifford was a veteran of the second World War. He was a loving father, grandfather and husband, and was an active member of Saint Ambrose Cathedral parish, Yarmouth, where he enjoyed weekly bible studies with church members and friends. Cliff was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving with both Council 2181, Yarmouth, as well as the Msgr. W. E. Young Fourth degree Assembly, as well as being an active member of the Cursillo movement, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 143, Port Maitland, the 84th Independent Field Battery and a past-member of the Port Maitland Volunteer Fire Department. Cliff had wonderful and happy memories of hunting with his friends, camping with his family at Keji, and in his later years, meeting twice weekly for coffee with his Tim Horton’s buddies. Theresa Catherine Davison, of Ajax, Ontario, formerly of New Ross and Falmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2007, in Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering Hospital, in her 80th, year. Born on July 20th, 1928, in New Ross, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Roy Russell and Clara Smith Russell. She was the cherished mother of Ann and mother-in-law of Chris Billy; dearest nanny of Brendon and Stephanie. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her brothers, Melbourne and Stuart; and sisters, Eileen, Margaret and Kathleen.
