A new bus service from Cape Sable Island to Yarmouth is now up and running.
C & J’s bus service will be operating once a week on Thursdays, with stops in Cape Sable Island and along the old Highway 3 Lighthouse route to Paul d’Entremont’s Marine before it continues along Hwy 103.

“I’ve had people ask me about the service and I know the Barrington Municipality has done studies on it and determined there is a need,” said owner Joel Goreham.

Goreham has been operating another business, C & J Ocean Tours Ltd., for nine years. His two buses take visitors on a two and a half hour of Yarmouth that includes Cape Forchu, Saint Ambrose church, Stanley’s Lobsters and the Yarmouth Bar.

C & J’s bus service is using one 24-passenger bus for now but may add another and, depending on the demand, the service may operate an additional day.

The bus departs at 8 a.m. with three or four stops in every community. The fee will be $20/per person round trip including HST.

Once in Yarmouth passengers will be dropped off at Zellers, Walmart and the Yarmouth Hospital.

“From there if they need to get around, they can pick up Hut’s Transit,” said Goreham.

The bus leaves to return to C.S.I. around 4 p.m.

“We have a rough idea of what time we’ll be at the different stops but it will take a few runs to figure that out completely.

“As we become more organized in our stops and know where people live, it may be possible to pick people up at their homes and drop them off there,” said Goreham.

He says if there is a need the bus service will run year round.

“I hope we get some people to Yarmouth that otherwise wouldn’t get there,” he said.

For more information on the bus schedule contact Goreham at 1-902- 745-0395.
