Adria LaVerne Woodman (Brown) - 80, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Sunday August 12, 2007. Born on December 31, 1926, in Bramber, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Gladys (Crossley) Brown. Adria was a graduate of Windsor Academy, Provincial Normal College and Acadia University. Her teaching career spanned a period of 20 years. While teaching in Hantsport in 1951, during the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival, she was crowned Queen Annapolisa XIX. In 1971, she formed a business (Chic Fabric Shoppe) with the late Netina Parrish, which she took over in 1978 and operated until her retirement in 1989. Adria was member of the Berwick Baptist Church, the MacPherson Auxilliary and the Enid Davidson Missionary Society. She had taught Sunday School in both Falmouth & Berwick. She was a former member of the South Berwick Women’s Institute. She is survived by her husband Earl L. Woodman, Berwick; son, Michael (JoAnn) Woodman, Edmonton, Alberta; daughter, Michelle LaFosse, Bedford; grandchildren, Jacob LaFosse; James, Richard & Cora LeAnne Woodman; sister, Shirley (Stan) Aker, Ottawa, Ontario; special niece, Carol Miller, P.E.I. There was no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service for Adria was held 2 p.m. Wednesday August 15, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Murray Shaw officiated. Burial was in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church or to the Canadian Cancer Society. d’ENTREMONT, James Eli – 86, Comeau’s Hill, Yarmouth County, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born January 3, 1921 in East Pubnico, he was a son of the late Henri L. & Annie C. (d’Entremont) d’Entremont. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6505, Wedgeport, as well as a member of the Seniors Kickin’ Country line dancing group. James also enjoyed working with his oxen. Surviving are his wife, Marie M. (deViller) d’Entremont; step-sons, Phillip (Alfreda) Clairmont, Melbourne, Martin (Karen) Clairmont, Comeau’s Hill; step-daughters, Linda (Brad) Surette, Little River Harbour, Lillian (Grant) Cunningham, Cape Forchu; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; sisters, Rose Stoddard, Lower East Pubnico, Margaret (Irvin) Adams, Middle East Pubnico; a brother, Benoit (Lynden) d’Entremont, West Pubnico; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, George, in infancy, Marc d’Entremont, Leslie d’Entremont, Albert d’Entremont; sisters, Bessie d’Entremont, Mary d’Entremont. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 15 from Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Comeau’s Hill, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. cunningham, Daniel Nelson “Jackie” - 68, of Tusket, Yarmouth Co. passed away August 12, 2007 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Belleville, Yar. Co., he is the son of Douglas and Olive (Fitzgerald) Cunningham. He is survived by son Douglas Thomas Cunningham, Halifax; brothers, Marvin and George, both of Yarmouth; Wesley, South Ohio; Gilbert Martin, New Hampshire; sisters, Irvina Cook, Alberta; Anna Trefry, Springhaven; Myrtle Raynard, Chegoggin; Marjorie McSwaine and Norma Brittain of Oshaw, Ont.; Hazel Doucette, Mood’s Mill Rd., Yar. Co.; Shirland Frotten, Quinan, Yar. Co.; and Gloria Hurlburt, Carleton, Yar. Co. He was predeceased by sister Rosie White and brother Bruce. Barbara Isabelle, 82, Grandview Manor, Berwick, formerly of Hantsport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at the Manor in Berwick. Born in Wards Brook, Cumberland Co., she was the oldest daughter of the late Hamilton and Susan (Ayer) Morris. She was a life member of St. James United Church Women, and a life member of Lucknow Branch 109 of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Barbara was an avid quilter and devoted her spare time to Thimble Six Quilters of Lockartville. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Barbara is survived by her daughter Claudia (Greg) Coldwell, Port Williams; grandsons Michael (Vonda), Olds, Alberta; Dana (Jennifer), Calgary, Alberta; great grandchildren Jessica, Tara, Monte, and Ashleigh, Alberta; sister Betty Crooke, Port Williams; brother Claude (Mary), Bridgetown, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband Carl E. Peach. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 16 at 2:00 pm from the St. James United Church, Hantsport, with Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating. Norman Harding Morse – 86, of Oakland, Lunenburg County, formerly of Grand Pré, Kings County, passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in West Paradise, Annapolis County he was a son of the late Harris Harding and Annie Marion (Longley) Morse. As a boy, he enjoyed rural Nova Scotia farm life in West Paradise helping his father in the apple orchards, logging, raising foxes, then mink and training his team of oxen. After obtaining a BA (1940) from Acadia University and a MA (1942) from the University of Toronto, he joined the RCAF and was a co-pilot of Canso aircraft on night patrol over the North Atlantic. After active duty, he returned to the University of Toronto to complete his PhD (1952) as a student of Harold Innis. From 1945 to 1964 he was Professor of Economics at Acadia University, becoming head of the Department of Economics and Sociology and Acting Dean of Arts from 1964 to 1965. From 1965 to 1984 he was Professor of Economics at Dalhousie University serving as chairman of the Department of Economics from 1968 to 1972. During his academic career, he produced several publications and articles. As well as being an economic historian, he was an avid gardener, breeder of German Shepherd dogs and enjoyed boating on the waters of Mahone Bay on his boat, “Thingabob”. His pioneering work in growing grapes established the basis for a new industry in Nova Scotia. Norman had the vision to plant the first grape vines on his Grand Pré property that evolved, through changes of ownership, to what is known today as Domaine de Grand Pré. He will be remembered by family and friends as a gentle, humble man. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Sybil Blanche (Douglass); two daughters, Ruth Anne (David) Nicholson, Martin’s Point; Margaret Ellen (John) Zirbel, Montreal; two sons, Douglass “Doug” (Cora Mae), Grand Pré; Robert “Bob” (Christine), Mahone Bay; a sister, Alice Miner, Boston, Massachusetts; a brother, Arthur (Claire), Beaconsfield, Quebec; eight grandchildren, Erika Nicholson, Anna Zirbel, Katherine Zirbel, Jonathan Morse, Peter (Molly) Morse, Andrew Morse, Benjamin Morse, Jenny Morse; two great grandchildren, Emma and Anderson; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Brian Gordon Longley Morse and a brother-in-law, Clarence Miner. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in the Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Visitation was also held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007, Pastor Stephen P. Kristenson officiated. A private family burial took place in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown, Annapolis County. Family flowers only, by request. NEILY, Lorna Jean - 88, of Middleton, passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Milford, Surrey, England, she was a daughter of the late Melbourne and Evelyn (Hall) Neily. Lorna was a graduate of Nova Scotia Teachers’ College, Dalhousie University and St. Mary’s University. She taught in country schools in the province for nine years and in city schools for 27 years before retiring in 1977. Lorna was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton and ACW; Canadian Cancer Society; Soldiers Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; Spa Springs Women’s Institute; Historical Society of Nova Scotia and Four Seasons, Port George. She is survived by sister, Norah Balcom, Middleton; Marian Porter, Stillwater, Halifax County and brother, Hugh (Ruth) Neily, London ON; sisters in law Ruth Neily, Spa Springs NS and Ruth Neily, Wheatley ON; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Ronald and David; niece Patricia Kory. Cremation has taken place. TRASK, Frederick “Bruce” - 68, Pleasant Street, Yarmouth, passed away August 13, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on June 29, 1939 in Dayton, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of Norma (Doane) Trask and the late Cecil Trask. He was an adherent of Yarmouth North United Baptist Church. He worked as a paid fire fighter for 40 years for the Town of Yarmouth. Bruce was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also very active in sports during his younger years. He bowled for the Yarmouth Fire Department for many years. Bruce also liked to garden. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Smith); son, Jeff (Gina) Trask, Yarmouth; stepsons, Vaughan (Jennifer) Samms, Raynardton; Jason (Brandie) Samms, Sackville; brothers, Gordon (Ellen) Trask, Raynardton; George (Joan) Trask, Saskatoon; John (Joyce) Trask, Ottawa; sisters, Elizabeth (Paul) Gould, South Ohio; Gail (Curtis) Kenny, Tantallon; three grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren. Bruce was predeceased by his first wife, Florence, and brother, Gary. Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 16 from 7-9 p.m., funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m., Rev.
