August 5, 2007 to August 11, 2007 Joyce Louise MacLeod – 83, of Wolfville, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, Joyce was the daughter of the late C. H. and Ola (Wood) Porter. She was a graduate of Acadia University and taught Family Studies at the Kings Hall School in Compton, Quebec and later with the Kings County Amalgamated School Board, retiring from Horton High School in 1983. Her passions were sewing, her grandchildren, and testing out new recipes on her family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Murdock “Bus”; her sons, Wayne (Sheila), Amherst; Robbin (Vicki Rowter), Aylesford; Tim (Betty), Wolfville. Gram will also be missed by her grandchildren, Jeff (Tyra), Kentville; Jake (Nicole), Oakville, Ontario; Melissa, Halifax; Jennifer, Calgary; Alexa, Amherst; her great grandchildren, Liam and Margo, Kentville and Lily, Oakville. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald, Wolfville. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Donna; her sister-in-law, Norma. There was no visitation by family request. A private family graveside service was held in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital – MRI Fund. August 5, 2007 to August 11, 2007 Louise Alberta “Mickie” Barnaby - 73, Kentville, passd away on Sunday, August 5, 2007, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Seamore and Ethel (Rogers) Fitzgerald. Mickie was a very loving and caring person who enjoyed knitting to share with her family and friends. She also enjoyed walking and travelling. She was very proud to have been able to complete her GED program for adult learning. She will be sady missed by many family members and friends. She is survived by daughters, Louise Morine (Joe States), Kentville; Beth Callaghan, New Brunswick; several other children; sister, Myrtle Fitzgerald; several grandchildren and many other family members. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Barnaby, and sister, Viola. There was visitation for Mickie on Wednesday, August 8, from 7-9 p.m. with a funeral service on Thursday, August 9, at 11 a.m., both in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverette Ave., Kentville, (902) 678-2151 with Rev. Fred Sisco officiating. Burial in Hortonville Cemetery. August 5, 2007 to August 11, 2007 Wickstrom (nee Larsen), Doris- Age 65, passed away at home on August 5, 2007. Born in Bridgewater in 1941 to Magnus and Dorothy (Ettinger) Larsen, who were lost at sea on the SS Novadoc on March 3, 1947. Doris (age 5) and brother Harold (age 3) were raised by their maternal grandparents; Ralph and Mary Ettinger in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Doris graduated as an RN from Payzant Memorial Hospital and continued to work there for many years and with Dr. Avery Vaughan in Windsor and in Ottawa prior to moving to Wadena, Saskatchewan to become Director of Nursing at the Wadena Hospital. On July 12, 1975 Doris, Sandra and Howard became a family and for her and Howard, had 32 wonderful years together. Tragedy struck in 1989 with the death of Sandra after losing her fight with cancer at age 17. June 1993 was a highlight of her life with the birth of her first grandchild and the discovery of a whole new family in Norway; one brother, two sisters and a host of other relatives. This discovery would lead to three trips to Norway in the subsequent years.Doris retired from nursing in 2002 and spent many hours in her home; which she loved, doing cross stitch, crafts and knitting. She was a master craftsperson and her works hang in many homes. She enjoyed curling, dancing, shopping, her garden, flowers and the Saskatchewan Rough Riders football team. Doris is predeceased by her daughter Sandra, brother Harold Larsen and sister Hennie Fredrickson of Norway. She is survived by her husband Howard of Wadena, Saskatchewan, son Andy Daniels and family of Windsor, Nova Scotia, brother Magnus Larsen and sister Karen Naess of Norway, uncle Joseph Ettinger and aunt Maggie Fader of Windsor, Nova Scotia and many relatives and friends. Memorials in her memory may be made to the St. Croix Cemetery (c/o Phylis and Harley Burgess, St. Croix, Hants County, Nova Scotia, B0N 2E0) or the charity of one’s choice. Born in Liverpool he was the son of the late Catherine Ann (Gillis) and John Ronald MacEachern. Tommy worked as a production worker at Michelin for 33 years. He enjoyed camping and hunting and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Tommy is survived by his wife the former Mary Catherine Wolfe; daughters, Rhonda (Jamel) Perry, and Patricia (Chris) Evans, both of Mill Village; sons, Wayne (Pat) and John R. (Allison), both of Liverpool; grandchildren, Kayla, John Thomas, William, Amelia, and Brenden; sisters, Mary Catherine (Percy) Cox, of Shelburne and Anna (Gary) Jollimore of Liverpool; brothers, Hugh (Inga) of Ottawa, John D. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Louis Hubbard; children, Helen, John David, Joseph David, Jennie; brothers, Julien, Levi, Alphée, Wallace Muise; sisters, Odille Barrigan, Henriette Pothier, Mammie Muise, companion Paul Doucette. August 5, 2007 to August 11, 2007 SAULNIER, Julienne Isabelle – 96, Yarmouth, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in Villa Acadienne, Meteghan. Born in Lower West Pubnico, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Armand and Marie Elizabeth (d’Eon) d’Entremont. She will always be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, strong in her faith, a tireless volunteer to her church and community. She was an active member of the Saint Ambrose Altar Society, the Catholic Womens’ League and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and will be fondly remembered for her kitchen duties. She worked as a seamstress for the Thistle Knit and Bonda Textiles. She is survived by her sons, Paul (Marie-Catherine) Saulnier, West Pubnico; Rev. Gerald Saulnier, Middleton; daughters, Jean (Neil) Smith, Arcadia; Jeanette (Donald) Southern, Lower Sackville; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward L. “Eddie” Saulnier; five children who died in infancy; sisters, Evangeline (in infancy), Ida, Evangeline, Elizabeth, Mary, Jane Rose, Esther, Adeliza, Florence, Emiline; brothers, Albert, Theodore and Augustin. August 5, 2007 to August 11, 2007 CROWELL, Mary Seretha - 91, Lower Argyle, Yarmouth Co., passed away on August 7, 2007, in Roseway Manor, Shelburne. Mary was born on July 18, 1916, in Cape Island, Shelburne Co., to Bryce Reede and Alice Trott Reede. She married Aubrey Freeland Crowell on August 27, 1941. They had one son, Ivan Crowell. The family moved to Brighton, Mass., where they lived until Freeland and Mary retired in 1985 and returned to live in Lower Argyle. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers, Austin Reede and James Reede, and sister, Virginia Goodwin. Mary is survived by her son, Ivan Crowell, Kansas City, Mo.; granddaughter, Tonya, Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, Harry Reede, Pubnico Head; Irvin Reede, Vancouver, B.C.; George Reede, East Pubnico; Victor "Bud" Reede, Pubnico; sisters, Ethelda Murphy, Pubnico; Amy D'Aloisio, Bridgewater. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 and funeral service was held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 both in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Yarmouth, Rev. Robert Baker officiated. Interment took place in Green Grove Cemetery, Charlesville. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
