Breakins, accidents, dominate RCMP's week

The RCMP responded to 104 calls for assistance during the week of August 6 through August 13. Included was a charge of impaired driving -- on a ride-on mower. Among the week's work were 10 911s; three false alarms; 25 traffic incidents; 22 domestic matters and four noise complaints.
Following are highlights of these calls:
-- August 6 at 1:30 p.m. Police were called to a single vehicle accident on the 101 Highway near Meadowvale. Emergency Health Services personnel were also called to the scene, where the vehicle had gone off the road. The driver was taken to the hospital for a precautionary examination and the vehicle was towed. Fatigue was a likely factor in the crash.
-- August 6 at 1:40 p.m. Police were called to investigate a break and enter into a residence in Bear River. A quantity of money was taken and the investigation continues.
-- August 6 at 3:20 p.m. Police received a report of a possible dangerous driver in Round Hill. A patrol was made, but police were unable to locate the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and the appropriate action was taken.
-- August 7 at 9:35 a.m. A Torbrook resident contacted police after noticing a suspicious vehicle in the area. A patrol was made, but the vehicle wasn’t located.
-- August 7 at 11:07 a.m. A New Albany resident reported concerns over a traffic hazard. Police attended and a horse trailer was moved to another location.
-- August 7 at 1:22 p.m. Police were called to a two-vehicle accident in Wilmot. No injuries were reported after one vehicle swerved into another in an attempt to avoid hitting a driver turning into a driveway. Investigation continues and charges are possible.
-- August 7 at 4:32 p.m. A Middleton business owner contacted police after discovering that gasoline had been siphoned out of vehicles over night.
-- August 7 at 6:57 p.m. Police were called to Middleton after receiving a report that a possible fight was in progress at Rotary Park. Police attended and found an argument was taking place. The parties left without further incident.
-- August 7 at 7:34 p.m. An alert citizen in Lequille contacted police after a suspicious male tried to gain entry into the residence. The male left without further incident.
-- August 7 at 8:02 p.m. Police received a report of a black Camero speeding along the 101 Highway near Bridgetown. A patrol was made, but officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
-- August 7 at 9:01 p.m. Police were called to a noise complaint in a Bridgetown apartment. Police attended but the individual had left the scene.
-- August 8 at 8:42 a.m. An alert citizen reported finding a new twin mattress lying on the side of the Highway 101 near Middleton. Police retrieved the mattress and will hold the item at headquarters until the owner comes forward to retrieve it.
-- August 8 at 9:04 a.m. A DOT crew called police after two drivers failed to obey traffic signs in New Albany. Police have the license plate numbers of the offenders and will be following up. Charges are possible.
-- August 8 at 1:37 p.m. A Bridgetown resident contacted police after discovering the residence had been egged during the night.
-- August 9 at 9:41 a.m. A Wilmot resident contacted police after discovering a shed had been broken into. The lock had been cut, entry was gained, but nothing appeared to be missing.
-- August 9 at 10:02 p.m. A Lawrencetown resident reported a break and enter into a residence. Nothing appeared to be missing, but trash had been thrown around inside and some minor damage had been done.
-- August 9 at 12:15 p.m. The owner of a rental property in Brickton reported the discovery of a number of marijuana plants. Police attended and seized a number of plants that were later destroyed.
-- August 9 at 7:07 p.m. Police were called to East Torbrook after a 4-wheeler was stolen. The investigation continues.
-- August 9 at 7:49 p.m. Police were called to Lawrencetown to deal with an unwanted guest. The individual was located and the matter was resolved.
-- August 9 at 8:39 p.m. The Bridgetown fire department was called to a minor grass fire that appeared suspicious in nature. Police were unable to collect evidence to the origin of the fire.
-- August 10 at 0:16 a.m. Hospital security contacted police after discovering a suspicious person at the back of the hospital. Police attended and searched the area thoroughly, but were unable to locate the individual.
-- August 10 at 11:31 a.m. A Middleton bank reported a possible fraud involving cheques.
-- August 10 at 12:59 p.m. Police were called to a single vehicle accident in Bear River. The vehicle went in the ditch after the driver fell asleep. Minor damage resulted, but no injuries were reported.
-- August 10 at 2:38 p.m. A Bridgetown campground owner reported concerns about youth running through the campground at night.
-- August 10 at 3:57 p.m. Police were called to investigate a break and enter at the Bridgetown swimming pool. Minor damage had taken place, and a pair of swimming goggles was taken. The investigation continues.
-- August 10 at 4:04 p.m. Police were called to Highway 1 in Belleisle after three horses were seen running loose on the road. The horses were corralled and returned to paddock.
-- August 10 at 7:38 p.m. Police were called to a possible assault in Upper Granville. Patrol was made and the matter was resolved peacefully.
-- August 10 at 10:32 p.m. Police were called to a Bridgetown apartment to investigate a possible break and enter in progress. A youth had been locked out of the residence and gained entry through the window.
-- August 11 at 00:25 a.m. Police were called to a Middleton apartment in response to a report of a prowler. Patrol was made, but suspect not located.
-- August 11 at 7:18 p.m. Police were called to West Springhill in response to a report of dangerous operation of a vessel. Police suspect that sea-doos and other motor boats are not being operated safely. Investigation continues.
-- August 11 at 10:57 p.m. An alert Bridgetown resident reported seeing a youth on the roof of the hardware store. The individual climbed down and left with two friends before police arrived. No damage had taken place.
-- August 11 at 11:31 p.m. Police were called to Lawrencetown after receiving a report of a driver on a ride-on mower. One male youth was charged for impaired driving after the individual failed the breathalyzer.
-- August 12 at 3:30 a.m. Police were called to Middleton to investigate the theft of a motorbike. Through the assistance of the owner, the bike was recovered and one male was arrested. The individual faces charges of theft and breeching a court order, and is scheduled to appear in court in October.
-- August 12 at 11:37 a.m. Police were called to Spa Springs to investigate the theft of work tools. Investigation continues.
-- August 12 at 2:28 p.m. Police investigated a break and enter into a shed in South Williamston.
-- August 12 at 9:45 p.m. Police were called to a disturbance in Wilmot. Family members were having a dispute, but were able to resolve their differences.
-- August 12 at 10:44 p.m. Police were called to Cornwallis by military police after a cadet was discovered to be missing from Camp Acadia. The individual left after getting into a dispute with staff and was later located on the beach and returned to camp.
