It has been a year since their last appearance in Windsor, but the MainStream Wrestling Entertainment (MSW) roster rolls back into town Aug. 26 with the 2007 Sea Side Slam Tour.
MSW owner and promoter Devin Chittick, who wrestles as “X-Ray” Kyle Kruze, said there’s a host of new and exciting wrestlers coming to Windsor that Hants County fans haven’t seen before. Chittick says the show will easily be the best ever held at the War Memorial Community Centre.
Alex North is coming from Montreal, Quebec to make his MSW debut. Harv Sihra from Vancouver, B.C. will make his first appearance in Windsor as well. Projected to be a future star, Sihra is a Sikh wrestler who speaks English and his native Punjabi.
“In the main event, fans will get the opportunity to see a barnburner,” Chittick said. “It’s going to be the seven-foot, 300-pound MSW Champion Grimez going up against Sidewalk Sam, who will be accompanied by his Papi.”
Scott Savage returns and Kruze, the Century Wrestling Alliance Cruiserweight and MSW Atlantic Canadian Champion, will be in action. Former Total Non-stop Action (TNA) star and three-time former NWA World Light-heavyweight Champion “The Boston Bad Boy” Jason Rumble will return, as will be long-time ring announcer and Hants County native “Captain” Kirk Starratt.
Wrestlers are stoked
Scheduling issues and a lack of availability at the venue forced MSW to scrap the last show planned for the town, but Chittick said Windsor is right en route coming back from Digby, where a show will be held the night before. Fans can mark the Aug. 26 date on their calendar because MSW will be there.
Chittick said this is the biggest independent professional wrestling tour put together in North America in years, with 16 shows planned throughout Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The wrestlers are stoked and spending long hours in the gym getting ready for what’s going to be a grueling trip.
“For me, as a promoter, it has been hectic. I’ve been working feverishly for the past three months putting everything together from booking the buildings, designing promotional material and placing ads to making media contacts and scheduling appearances for the crew,” he said. “Six dates is one thing, but nothing like constructing over a two-week trip that covers two provinces.”
Personally, he said he has always enjoyed the initial reaction he got from the fans in Windsor whenever he performed in front of them. However, Chittick said his most memorable match in Windsor was last year’s Flaming Tables battle with Chris Hamrick as his partner. The bout won MSW Match of the Year honours for 2006.
He said MSW has a devoted fan base in Windsor, which has developed and grown since the first show there in 2001. New fans are made as the years go by, he said, and the crowds continue to grow.
The doors of the Windsor War Memorial Community Centre open at 7 p.m. Sunday and the opening bell is at 7:30. Admission is payable at the door.
