A Canning man has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the attempted robbery of a Port Williams store the evening of July 23. He will be sentenced in October.
Jonathan Michael Ansems, 21, pleaded guilty in Kentville provincial court Tuesday, Aug. 7 to attempting to steal money from a business while armed; possession of a firearm while being prohibited from doing so; and being masked while intending to commit an indictable offense.
Judge Claudine MacDonald scheduled Ansems to return to court Oct. 2 for sentencing, pending a pre-sentence report. Meanwhile, Ansems will remain in remand, where he had been since his arraignment July 25.
The court had released the other suspect in the attempted heist, an 18-year-old Hall’s Harbour man, on bail July 25 and ordered him to return for election and plea Aug. 20. He faces a charge of attempted armed robbery.
The charges stem from when a male entered the Port Williams store armed with a 12-gauge shotgun July 23 and demanded cash. He fled subsequently after the clerk refused to comply with his demand.
With information from witnesses, Kings RCMP members were able to apprehend the suspects quickly a short distance from the scene.
