SPENCER, Douglas Arthur - 72, Newport Corner, Hants Co., passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Newport Corner, he was the son of the late Arthur and Norma (Hope) Spencer. Doug was educated at the local school in Newport Corner, then he went to train as a machinist at William Collins & Sons, following that he worked for Defence Research Establishment Atlantic, Dartmouth, retiring in 1995 after 28 years of service. He was a former member of Neighborhood Watch, and the High Tide Twirlers Square Dancing Club and the Dice Hill Squares. He was a member of the Newport Jolly Seniors and a member of Coyote Hill Golf Course, Newport Corner. Doug enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, square dancing, fishing and golf. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, the former Joyce Williams, children, Deborah Jabalee, Hong Kong; Pamela (Christen) Best, Newport Corner; Wendy Spencer, Newport Corner; Terry Spencer, Stellarton; and Julie (Michael) Foxall, Ottawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Nicholas and Craig Best, Alisha and Scott Foxall; sister, Madge Jones, Dartmouth; and brother-in-law, Ronald Best. Doug was predeceased by sisters, Roberta Best and Thelma Williams, brother-in-law, Ronald Williams, and son-in-law, Joseph Jabalee. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 2, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Karen Pearce officiated. Private interment took place in Oakhill Cemetery, Ellershouse. Family flowers only. MELANSON, Clifton John – 62, Plympton, died July 29, 2007 in Regional Health Centre, Yarmouth. Funeral was held in Holy Cross Church, Plympton. Internment in the parish cemetery.

Seaman, Kathleen Rose—87, of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2007, in Harbourview Haven, Lunenburg. Born in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Martha (Ryer) Whynot. Kathleen worked for the Advance publishing Company for twenty-six years as a proofreader, typesetter and clerical worker. She is survived by sister Muriel (Frank) Morash, of Moncton, New Brunswick; brothers Maurice, of Milton, Gerald, of Perth, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Isaac; sisters Lillian, Belle; brothers: Clarence, Victor, Raymond, David, Herman and Percy in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date. No flowers by request. Paul Alexander Bennett – A private family burial service for Paul was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. His cremated remains were interred next to grandparents Midge and Charlie Simons. The service was conducted by The Reverend Archdeacon Lynn Uzans of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. A traditional Buddhist ceremony was held on June 11, 2007 in Lamduan, Thailand. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. D'EON, Elmer François - 90, Olson's GLO Estate Seniors Home, Overton, Yarmouth Co., formerly of West Pubnico, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Lower West Pubnico, he was a son of the late William and Françoise D'Eon. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and brought the gift of ballroom dancing to several local communities. He is survived by son, Gary, West Pubnico; daughter, Myrna (Albert) d'Entremont; Middle West Pubnico; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie; Lower West Pubnico. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine “Kate”; daughter-in-law, the former Kathy Cameron; brothers, Liboire, Edward, Philip, André; sisters, Marie Madeleine, Clara, and Dora. Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 5 from 4-9 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 6 from 9-9:30 a.m. in West Pubnico Funeral Home, Middle West Pubnico. Funeral was held 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Middle West Pubnico, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Hilda Christine Reese – 79, of Kentville, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Blue Mountain, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Nellie (Arenburg) Butler. She had been employed for a number of years with Scotian Gold as an apple packer and cleaner. She also loved to play bingo. She is survived by two daughters, Jo-Ann Reese (Bryne Eisnor), Kentville and Brenda Rose Reese, Halifax; four sisters, Pauline Maddox, Dartmouth; Alice (Clifford) Frizzle, Windsor; Mary Butler and Helen (Fred) MacCumber, both of Ontario; three brothers, Harris (Lucille), New Minas; Ernie (Myrna), Canning and Robert, Ontario; five grandchildren, Michael, Tanya, Rachel, Elizabeth and Lawrence; seven great grandchildren, Bailey, Jeremy, Nicholas, Brandon, Hannah, Kiara and Danielle. She was predeceased by three brothers, Charlie, Clifford and Rufus. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Geraldine Elizabeth Thibeau – 89, of Kentville, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. She was born in Yarmouth and came to the valley at an early age. She was employed for a number of years at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium as well as Archibald Farms. She was an active member of the CB Radio Club and was well-known as “Mother Goose”. Geraldine had a great love for all animals and was always busy with her plants and garden. She was also an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She is survived by three daughters, Madeline Blanchard, Noreen (Harold) Wellwood and Shirley (Donald) Brown; three sons, Roy (Georgina) Graves, Murray (Carol) Croft and Raymond (Kathy) LaPratte; 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Bill Graves, her second husband, Wilson Croft and her third husband, Charles “Bob” Thibeau; a daughter, Mae; an infant daughter, Carolyn Graves; a granddaughter, Faye Ann Dunbar. Visitation was held from 2-4 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007, Reverend Robert Billings officiated. DANCEY, Gladys Annie - 91, passed away peacefully at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, Nfld, on August 3, 2007, following a long illness. Gladys was born in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, on July 27, 1916, and was the daughter of John Wesley Heckbert and Margaret Jane (Graham). Gladys lived in Summerside, PEI, where her children were born, for many years, and was employed at the Prince County Hospital. She later moved to Halifax, NS, where she was employed as an aide at the Grace Maternity Hospital. Her marriage at age 77 to Glen Dancey led her to Govan and then McLean, Saskatchewan, and following his death in 2002 she lived for a time in Barrington, NS, and finally in Stephenville, Nfld. Gladys was predeceased by sisters and brothers Katherine (Trubey), Charles, Mark, Willis, Lillian, Horace, Vancil, Wendell, Aletha (Craig), and Ertel, daughter Judith Jean Perry, Halifax, NS, and second husband Glen Dancey, McLean, SK. She is survived by sisters Ethel (Lloyd) Parsons, St. Stephen, NB; Ella (Cliff) MacEwan, Regina SK; and brother Ernest (Velda) Heckbert, Summerside PEI; sons Francis (Ellen) Perry, Barrington, NS; and Michael Perry, Stephenville, Nfld; and grandchildren Francis, Truro, NS; Carrie-Dawn (Dana) Weeks, Barrington, NS; Wesley, Moncton, NB; Keith Muise, Fort MacMurray, AB; Allison Fillatre, Toronto, ON; Sara Perry, Stephenville, Nfld; and Michael Perry, Stephenville, Nfld. Cremation took place under the direction of Russell‚s Funeral Home, Stephenville, Nfld, and a memorial service will take place on August 25, 2 p.m., at West Head Wesleyan Church, Pastor Perry Ingersoll officiating. LeBLANC, Francis Clifford – 88, Veteran’s Place, Yarmouth, and formerly of Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2007 in the home. Born December 29, 1918 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Capt. Rudolphe and Irene (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. He worked as a lobster fisherman, fish processor and as a moss harvester. Francis was a proud veteran of the second World War, having served in Bermuda and Newfoundland, and he was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155, Wedgeport. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Florence “Florrie” (Wallace) LeBlanc; a son, Daniel (Marilyn) LeBlanc, Wedgeport; a daughter, Pamela (Billy) Cottreau, Wedgeport; grandchildren, Samantha, Leon, Leeman and Andy; great-grandchildren, Shane, Nicholas, Tristan, Lucas and Nolan; sisters, Regina Pothier, Yarmouth; Mary LeBlanc, Wedgeport. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Martin LeBlanc; sister, Agnes LeBlanc. Visitation took place from 2-4, 7-9 Sunday, with a Branch No. 155 Legion Service at 7:30 PM, followed by prayers at 8 PM, all in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 2 PM, Monday, August 6 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Wieslaw Papuga and Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated.
