Aug. 9, 1973 - The Yarmouth Fire Department responded to a gas spill at the Imperial Oil bulk plant, North Water Street at 3:50 p.m. A cement wall surrounding the tanks kept the spill contained until cleanup was completed. BOAT FIRES

Engine or wiring burning? Turn off engine, and then use your dry chemical or carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher. Try not to use up the extinguisher in case the fire restarts. Disconnect battery as soon as possible. If fire gets near gasoline tank, "abandon ship", too much risk.

Galley stove on fire? Shut off fuel, use extinguisher. Have bucket with rope attached as an excellent extra fire fighting tool. (But not for flammable liquid or gas fires)

YFD BUSY

From July 27 to July 30 the Yarmouth Fire Department responded to seven calls, ranging from a vehicle leaking gas, a motor vehicle accident, two electrical malfunctions and two interior alarms.
