Summer Concert

Acclaimed Canadian pianist Terence Dawson will perform a benefit recital to support the Hall's Harbour Scholarship Fund Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m. in Denton Hall, Acadia University. The recital will include works of Schubert, Sciabin, Chopin, Coulthard, Brahms and Rachmaninoff.

Dawson, who teaches piano and chamber music at the University of British Columbia School of Music, has performed internationally and with the Vancouver Symphony and National Arts Centre Orchestras. His recordings for EMI Virgin Classics, Bravura Discs and Skylark as well as numerous CBC broadcast performances have received critical acclaim. Admission (cash at the door) is $15 per adult, $12 for seniors and students and $35 for families up to four. All gross proceeds will support deserving Hall's Harbour area students in furthering post-secondary studies.

Cinnamon and Spice tour

Travel Across the Maritimes, Andrea Curry and Glitter Cinnamon and the Candy Wrappers will make a stop in Wolfville Thursday, Aug.9 at The Library Pub, Wolfville. www.myspace.com

Curry's music blends the bits and pieces from many worlds that collide to create what has been said to change lives. Coming from Cape Breton, she was nominated for three East Coast Music Awards in 2006, and two Nova Scotia Music Awards last year for her debut CD.

Fundy Film continues its Summer Series with Away From Her, a beautifully moving love story that deals with memory (and its loss) and the circuitous paths of a long marriage. Directed by Sarah Polley, this Canadian film stars Gordon Pinsent and Julie Christie. At the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville Sunday, Aug. 12 at 8 p.m.

In Lunenburg

The seaport town of Lunenburg will come alive with music the weekend of Aug. 17-19 during the first Lunenburg Waterfront Seafood Festival. The festival is a celebration of maritime heritage in partnership with local business, community groups and the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. The festival will offer visitors an opportunity to hear great music at five different venues.

Performers include Melanie Doane at the Lunenburg Opera House, local singer-songwriter Art Cole, Catherine Maclellan, Mary Knickle, Drumlin, and Reg Tanner and Kinfolk. Event headliner is J.P. Cormier. Check the website, www.sealunenburg.com for concert times and event information.

In Windsor

Halifax singer/songwriter Ruth Minnikin and Saskatoon trio The Cracker Cats are performing Friday, Aug. 10 at The Mermaid Theatre Loft, 112 Gerrish St, Windsor.

Showtime is at 9 p.m., doors at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

Then, on Aug. 17–18, actors Matthew Stephenson and Kate Lavender are touring a true drama of two PEI teenagers in 1887. Entitled Tuesday and Sundays, the play is about star-crossed lovers. It premiered in 2001 and has been produced in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.

The play, by Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn, is directed by Samantha Wilson of the Neptune Theatre School. It will be performed at 8 p.m. both evenings and a Saturday matinee is planned for 2 p.m. in the Mermaid Loft.
