A Kings Transit bus was packed with local politicians that piled on in Hantsport July 30 for a premier tour of the new route being offered around Hants County. The Town of Windsor, the Town of Hantsport and the Municipality of West Hants all agreed to take advantage of the busing service with a trial period of one year beginning Sept. 4.

Buses have traditionally symbolized the start of another school year throughout Hants County, but this year new buses will represent something different. An original public transit route will be offered beginning Sept. 4.
The Town of Windsor, the Town of Hantsport and the Municipality of West Hants have approved the suggested busing route and have accepted unanimously a one-year trial period for the service offered by Kings Transit.
Kings Transit General Manager Ron Mullins says expanding the company to include Hants County stops is a very exciting prospect because it’s highly anticipated. “We’ve been getting calls every week from people looking for this service in Hants County,” he said. “The demand is definitely there.”
Tentatively, stops include areas near the Windsor Superstore, the Windsor downtown, Avon View High School, Windsor Hospital, the Hantsport downtown, the Garlands Crossing area and schools in Brooklyn. These areas will be covered by two identical buses, both accessible and seating between 20-22 passengers, with a standard charge of $3 for access on the bus in any location.
Practical option, affordable cost
Windsor Mayor Anna Allen says there are people in the area who don’t own vehicles and it’s great to know they’ll have a practical option available to them at an affordable cost. “I have really wanted this service for the community for a long time. It’s finally coming together and I’m really excited about it,” she said.
Hants County politicians participated in a trial tour of the new route being offered around the areas and residents along the way were anxious to see the Kings Transit bus. “One person even tried to get on the bus before we departed from Hantsport,” Allen said. “I can’t wait for people to just hop on the bus and have a good ride.”
Warden Richard Dauphinee says it’s important for people to be aware of the new transit route and for residents to ride the bus. “Drawbacks will occur only if people don’t use this service.”
Hantsport Mayor Wayne Folker says the trial year will determine the popularity of this new service. “I think the ridership is there and I’m really excited about it,” he added.
“I’m encouraged by it because it’ll be something that proves as another positive addition to the community,” Folker said. “I’m just hoping all municipalities continue to remain in favour because it’s going to take everyone to make this reality fly. We’ve all agreed to move forward with the trial period. Therefore, people should keep their eyes open for the bus.”
